American Idol 2018, Anyone Watching?

I have watched the first few shows this year, although not completely. I usually watch more toward the end, when they're down to 5 potential winners. I do like to listen to the singers and see the fresh talent out there, some really bring a smile.
 

I missed that one AC, couldn't take constructive criticism, lol. Reminded me of this recent TV commercial.

 
American Idol just isn’t what it used to be. While I love singing I think The Voice is a far superior show. Instead of judges offering criticism, there are coaches offering helpful advice. Plus I like the way the coaches interact with the musicians and their house band totally rocks. I miss the old American Idol. It’s just not the same right now.
I’m a HUGE music fan.
 
Yes, have never missed a season of American Idol. The best seasons were when Simon was a judge, but love watching the variety of contestants singing & their song choices.

I've tried to get into The Voice, but I just can't get past the judges. They are so "put on" and fake.....like it is forced, scripted, loud & noisy.

I think the format of American Idol is much nicer.
 
Of the 3 finalists, I'm very happy to see Maddie Poppe win American Idol. She had a great voice and seemed to be a very sweet girl. There were some good singers eliminated earlier from the show that I would have liked to see in the finals, maybe next year.

I remember that Ellen DeGeneres had to leave after being a judge for a season, because she couldn't stand criticizing contestants. Good she left. Criticizing is simply a part of being a judge in anything. Can't "criticize" someone for a poor performance, don't be a judge.

Guess you couldn't be a judge in anything, hugh? I wouldn't have a problem being a judge. I'm able to judge the "great", "good", "bad" and "downright ugly" of people in competition.
 
Never was a big fan of AI (or other singing competition shows).
Didn't watch this season, got tired of the commercials. Wish it would go away and stay away.

Rockr. Your logic is baffling.
First off, Ellen, has no problems criticizing others when necessary. She preferred not to criticize contestants because she felt they didn’t need criticism and she’s right.
After everyone of her shows she says, ‘Be kind to one another.’ She’s all about kindness and only shows her fangs when needed, just like moi.


Why do people need criticizing in the first place? These people weren’t just getting criticized for their singing ability but were getting criticized for their fashion sense, hair styles, lack of confidence etc., on national tv merely for the sake of RATINGS. Yes at times it was hilarious but these contestants shouldn’t have to go through that type of ridicule just to have their voice judged.


The singers who aren’t quite ready on ‘The Voice’ don’t get ridiculed or degraded by the judges . Criticizing isn’t a good way to motivate anyone.
The singers on the voice get judged on their voice ONLY. Anything that needs tweaking, they learn during the rest show from other mega stars.


And YES I definitely ‘could’ be a judge if I wanted to be but I wouldn’t want to be for either shows. I’ve got better things to do.

And for the record, I am a musician. I can sing and sight read music quite well.
