Golf balls and disreputable people.....

OK...so much for any sympathy from most of you :( Forget I even said anything. Why did you feel it was necessary to beat ME up???

BTW...in case anyone is interested....and I shouldn't even bother to let you know....the guy did call late tonight and we took our car to him. We should have it back Sunday. Hopefully, he will do a good job. He has a landscaping business also and was not available today. I cried wolf too soon.

Glad it is getting worked out. BTW, this is not a very sympathetic crowd, as you have noticed.

Just a rant, please.

These 2 guys were probably in their 30's and do not live out here in our community

Johnny told my husband to call Chris on Friday the 20th (today) and schedule a time for my husband to bring our car in to be fixed. So...my husband called Chris this morning and Chris basically blew him off. He said he'd have to talk to Johnny and he'd get back to my husband.

Ya, right! So...we have a nice fat dent in our new car that's probably going to be there forever! I would like nothing more than to get these two barred from ever playing golf out here again, but that's not going to happen. It's a public course and our POA doesn't give a rip because they want the money.

What is it with disreputable people?? No one seems to care to take responsibility for their actions.

Lets break this down some.

Colleen and her husband got their brand new car hit with a golf ball. A very honest person came up and claimed responsibility and offered to fix it. Before they even had a chance to work it all out she would have liked nothing more than to have had these two young honest gentleman barred from the entire golf course forever. She then came to this site to rant about it (which is perfectly fair and understandable to rant and rage considering she figured she was going to get ripped off. )

So members posted their views on the situation which pretty much matched her own concerns.
We were also not sure if she’d be able to get this covered or not due to the circumstances......

Police report??? You've got to be kidding, right?? It would have to be the Sheriff's Dept. and they would have just laughed at us. First of all...it happened on private property. If you would get hit in a grocery store parking lot, it would be up to the people involved to work it out. The only exception would be in bodily injuries. We live about 20 miles from town and the Sheriff's Dept. have more important things to do.

Insurance company?? I asked my husband about that and he said we have a $500 deductible, so.....

She then came back to let us know just how wrong we all were in what I would consider to be a bit harsh and somewhat ungrateful.

Glad it is getting worked out. BTW, this is not a very sympathetic crowd, as you have noticed.

In summary, I actually think most members were far more sympathetic about the situation , which INCLUDED the ā€œdisreputable golfers who don’t take responsibility for their actions,ā€ than she was.

I think this group of members are an exceptionally sympathetic group.
They have offered all kinds of sympathetic support to Colleen regarding leaving her husband as well as the problems she has had concerning her son. In fact, I think members here went above and beyond just being supportive in both these sensitive situations. The sympathetic support she has received has been overwhelmingly positive.

Just to clarify....we DON'T live on the golf course (see my original post, please) and that is one of the main reasons we did not buy a home directly on the course. Many residents that do have installed high nets in their yards, especially their patio areas that are facing the course, to deflect errant golf balls. We're not golfers so it was not a priority to be on the course. We are in the second row. We have a house in back of us (first row) that keeps us from getting any golf balls in our yard.

Second of all.....my husband was getting our mail about 2 blocks from our house. These are rows of boxes that are situated in several locations in the community. Ours is down by the club house. I'm attaching a photo so you can see better. The mailboxes and club house has a large area for parking. Our house is close to the 14th green.

I was upset that we had to wait a week for this to be taken care of and that we seemed to be going to get the run-around. I'm hoping this will be a good paint job. Sorry I was snippy about it yesterday. I hope I haven't ruffled any feather. I truly enjoy this group. It's the only place I have for an outlet.

Thank you for apologizing Colleen. It’s understandable for you to have been upset.
This is a GREAT group of people here who are exceptionally understanding and I’m very glad you came back to explain.

Have a great weekend . :)

The man who hit the golf ball would seek coverage from his Homeowner's Insurance under Liability for accidental damage, subject to his Policy Limits, if I remember correctly.

Colleen--there is no reason for you to apologize. You have as much right to post and VENT as anyone; just skip on by the buzzkill people's posts. I hope you get the dent fixed.

..."buzzkill people"?...who? I can't see any member in this thread I would call by that name.

Members are allowed, and expected, to voice their opinions in Discussion Forums, no?

I'm sorry, I just don't get why anyone is upset about anything or anybody in this thread. I'm a little lost I guess so I'll politely exit.

So we are in agreement that the OP does NOT live on the golf course. Being one row back is NOT on the golf course. "Living in a golf course community" is not the same as living on the golf course. But you knew that, right? They were getting their mail. Jeebus. And I do believe, that in general, golfers are responsible for their errant ball.
Well now
Permit me to continue beating this to death, of which can’t be far off…maybe 300 yards
I can drive the ball 300 yards
A house behind a house on the course is probably 300 feet…an easy pitching wedge

(about here I’d love to be an attorney);

Yes or no;
Did Johnny’s golf ball hit the car?

Yes or no;
Did Johnny hit the ball while on the course?

Hoot, yer pretty funny…but not near as funny as you think you are

..but of course you knew that

Next case please

Colleen -
Glad things worked out in your favor, as it should be.
Just one of those ....being at the right place at the wrong time. What are the odds of that? :)

Gee, Gary. I musta touched a nerve if you are sinking to petty insults. BTW, on the internet, we can all hit a golf ball 300 yards. In my case, that's with a 3 wood.

Hope he does a good job Colleen, glad he contacted you.

Sinking? I rose to it
rather gratifying

never played golf on the internet

You don't wanna do this

lol - that sounds like a threat! And of course you would find petty insults "rather gratifying".

Have a nice day. My work here is done.

I sincerely hope your car gets fixed up really well and I think it will.
For the record, I don’t blame you at all for wanting to live near a golf course. They are usually very scenic, well maintained and make great venues for weddings , so they are clearly popular for those who don’t even play golf.

Golf course locations are usually picked in prime areas. At least the ones I have seen are. They are all in gorgeous locations and the houses surrounding them are usually well cared for homes. There’s certainly nothing wrong with wanting to live in a beautiful location.

Also, I wasn’t laughing at the content of the posts but Gary’s hilarious use of photoshopping.
That Buddha Gary cracks me up every time I see it.

I hope you let us know how the paint job turns out.
I’m looking forward to hearing about it.

Newer autos have thinner metal of which stretches when dented
And today’s paint, tough to match, make look original after a bit of weather
However, some body folks are artists
Hope it comes out to your satisfaction

And, sorry for the off course adventure with Hoot, on yer rant thread
Some folks just can’t leave well enough alone
…of course I knew that

Happy golf trails

We got our car back and it's a perfect job :) The reason it could not be bumped out was because it was close to a "seam" near the rear wheelwell. At least it's fixed and you can't even tell anything was done to it and he made it right.

As I get older I'm becoming less patient and more cynical of people.....maybe because I've been burned too many times??? Whatever the reason, I'm glad he DID take responsibility and fixed it right. I apologize to the Universe for not keeping calm and for getting angry. Gary...Buddha wouldn't approve...haha.

Thanks for letting me rant. Taking a deep breath and......Ommmmmmmmmmmmmm

That's good news Colleen, and you have every right to rant...all of us do at times. There's good reason to be cynical of people to a certain degree, we've all been around many, many years and have seen good and bad. There's not one of us who haven't been screwed over at one time or another. :D Enjoy your Sunday!

Glad you got it fixed. A sharp dent like a golf ball dent is one of the hardest to fix. That repair company is to be commended.

This is really exciting and heart warming news all rolled into one.
It’s heart warming for many reasons but the very fact that these young, honest folks came forward and claimed responsibility raises humanity up a notch.

And two, you got to experience the very best of humanity first hand. You got proven wrong in the most delightful way.

You didn’t even need to apologize. I could empathize with you because I can be very cynical of people and often think the worst of them so could completely relate to how you felt.

Then to joke about the laughing Buddha here.....

Priceless!!!
What a fantastic story Colleen.
I’ve got goosebumps. :smug1:

For the record, the image he's so cleverly appropriated is of the Hindu (Indian) war goddess, Durga.

If anyone owes anyone an apology, it would be me.

If I were venting about getting dinged and thinking I was going to get ripped off I would have been upset just like you.
If after venting I read posts that didn’t sound supportive, I would have been even more upset and vent some more.

I wasn’t very understanding about your right to express your disappointment however you wished. Other situations had nothing to do with it so I apologize for posting what I did.

I’m still so very happy that these people came through with flying colours.
Yayyyy humanity!
