British woman, 18, with 'deeply entrenched' radical views jailed for life in terror plot

A British teenager was sentenced to prison for life Friday as the youngest woman to be convicted of plotting a terror attack on British soil.


Safaa Boular, 18, of Vauxhall, London, was convicted of preparing acts of terrorism and attempting to travel to Syria to join Islamic State militants.


She was jailed for life, with a minimum of 13 years, at the Old Bailey.


Her older sister, Rizlaine, and their mother, Mina Dich, have already been jailed for plotting a knife attack in Westminster, The Independent reports.

How do you go from life, to a mere 13 years?

Because the standard life sentence here in the UK is 15 years and with good behaviour a 1/3rd will come off that anyway and any time already served on remand will be taken into account. This is why no criminal fears the judicial system here, it's rare for anyone to be imprisoned for the rest of their natural life. It makes me furious to see these weak sentences handed down..but judges hands are tied!!

"Minimum" only means that she can't be up for a parole review until after serving 13 years. And even then she may not be released.

She plotted but never executed her plan and never took a life. I'm guessing "life sentence" is for the purpose of sending a strong message of no-terrorism-tolerance but leaving open the possibility of a successful rehab...especially at her young age..
