What I Really Miss In Life

Tonight, as I was sitting out on our deck, I happened to look up in the sky and I saw a jet flying overhead at about probably 35,000 ft. It brought back so many great memories. I really miss those days.

I never wanted to retire, but the FAA has this rule that does not allow passenger jet pilots to fly after their 65th birthday. I guess they think our shelf life expires at 65.

I should think that after passing a physical, they could relax that somewhat.

Oh, I can tell how much you want to go back up there. Could you rent a plane and take it up for awhile?
 
I can't imagine all the beauty you've seen and all the excitement you felt throughout your career Oldman, I would have been honored to have you as my pilot in a flight. Sorry you had to retire, but you have many great memories to think about and share, for that you should be very grateful....hugs. :sentimental:

I am the same way with computers after 48 years working with them from mainframes to what we have now. IT has become a young man's game with all the integration into various social media platforms and keeping up with the program language of the week.
 
Oldman, 65 does certainly seem like a very young age to retire from a job you obviously loved. With all the modern medical testing that can be done today you would think, assuming you pass it all, they would let you fly. At least you have your memories, they can't take that away from you.

Commercial pilots "only" are restricted at age 65. I could rent a small single or twin engine plane and go for a ride, but it's just not the same as flying one of the Boeing passenger jets. I look up in the sky and when I see one of the big jets, I can still feel the excitement of being in the cockpit.
 
I REALLY know how you feel! Biggest thing I miss, from years ago, is sitting on a horse, swinging a loop and chasing down a steer in a arena or simply working for a stock contractor. I'm talking about professional rodeo here. I stopped the rodeo "thing" about 16 years ago, even though I could have gotten into Senior Pro. My body just couldn't handle it anymore. After I met my wife, took her to many rodeos and she loved it.

Some things in life are simply for younger men and women than I am at 69 and I've had to accept that.

Being an airline pilot must have been extremely neat, but, even with passing a physical, airlines have to think about their passengers as well. I mean, passengers are the ones that pay the wages and their feelings about age and flying have to be in view.
