Think I can do this or am I nuts?

5-7 hours a day and tucked in a hotel before dark! I’m retired, have all the time in the world nowadays. I really need to prove this to myself.

Go for it Debbie! Since there's no pressure for time and you'll only drive 5-7 hours a day then check in a hotel for the night, I don't see any problem doing it like that. You can do it, just take it easy, be careful and most of all enjoy! Will look forward to hearing about your trip and maybe seeing some photos.

Thanks all! Gives me some hope that perhaps I’m not a fool. Brand new car, fall weather and no snow. What more can one ask for?!?!

I recently drove from NC to Florida with Bella (my puppy) and it was easy and fun on the way down because a little more than halfway there I booked a hotel room for us in Savannah GA. That left only a couple of hours to drive the rest of the way to FL the next morning so I could arrive in St. Augustine FL early enough to pick up my daughter at the airport for a fun family reunion at the beach. It was only a 7 hour drive in full but I didn't want to get tired because I'm prone to fall asleep at the wheel.

On the way back I wasn't as smart. Drove the whole day with my other daughter and also stopped to visit Charleston SC along the way. I originally thought we would share driving but she instantly drove my SUV like it was her sports car she usually drives. When she lost control on a curve I switched with her and drove. I was so so exhausted and fought falling asleep the last hour. The trip home was grueling. Never again.

I wouldn't. You have a new car yes, but what if (God forbid) something happens, a flat for instance. Definitely don't think a woman, or a man for that matter, should be traveling in unfamiliar territory at night; too many crazy things happening.

Thinking on visiting my daughter in Scottsdale in early October......am now thinking on driving. Am I nuts? It’ll be by myself, have a new car, so no issues there. Too early for any snow, that’s a big concern for me. Would you guys (gals) do this on your own?

Depends on how you personally feel... forget what others think in 2016 I drove from Alaska to Dallas at 70 years old and next summer I plan on driving back up at 73

Nothing like the smell of a new car. You did the right thing. You deserve it. I am contemplating a new Ford Explorer. I have a 2010 now. I am a widow and live alone. My family says I do not need it. But I feel safe in a SUV and not intimidated on the expressway.
Post some pictures.

Thanks for all the honest replies everybody. My husband passed in May so this is a “I can do this’ kind of trip. Have driven the route I’d go, safe, good roads, etc. Tough decision, think I just want to prove to myself I CAN do this.

My sister just drove home by herself (Well, with Mick, her dog) from Greeley,Colorado to San Martin,CA yesterday. She made it in 19 hours. She will be 70 on October 19th. She does drive all over the country every weekend though. She just usually has a road buddy, but was alone this trip. She says every time she looked in the back seat,Mick was just snoring away lol.

In that case go for it. Yeah things can always go wrong but (BIG BUT), a well planned trip can also go very well. Fear is powerful, don't be like me and succumb to it.
