Working From Home?

Greetings! I "work" from home as a writer and totally love it. I have been writing all my life and am much more into it these days.
I have to admit, being home all the time drives me to distraction! My son, noticing this, got me an Apple watch. Now I have a reminder to "stand" to "drink water" to "breathe". It also keeps track of activity. It is a mystery how all this happens.
Now I go for walks, long walks, watch what I eat much more closely, no longer have to keep track of calories or even time. The watch does it all.
A few years back, I was walking 8 miles in 90 minutes! Those of you familiar with such things know that is really moving. It requires walking at a pace just short of running and part of the plan is to not break into a run! Much easier than it sounds.
Then, I was hit by a snow plow truck while walking across a parking lot! That changed everything! I am not back there yet but ell on the way. Thank you Apple watch! ~ CNH

Our kids live 3000 miles away. They have both brought laptops and worked from here with no problem while visiting.

Yes, I would like that a lot.
Not sure what companies to trust though.

I know a number of programmers/developers that work from home. The company doesn't have access to your computer-you use a VPN to access their network and then remote desktop to access either a real or virtual workstation.

I do the same thing when I need to access the courthouse computer system-the IT department has me set up with a Cisco VPN to the network, and then I just use remote desktop to a server with profiles on it. That way I can work after hours or during times when I'm not required to be there, yet still have access to everything that I need.

My niece is a web designer/ programmer/ other geeky stuff and she works from home on this type network. She and her husband live in Los Angeles, and she told me once that it sure beats having to travel on the 405.

I work from home and love it. I'm self-employed so it does take some self discipline. I try to keep a daily work schedule but some days I do call in sick to myself if I'm ahead on a project.

When I do feel isolated I pack up my laptop and go to the local Starbucks or the library.

What a terrible accident- being hit by a snow plow! Glad you lived to tell about it.

I’ve been self employed most of my life and worked from home. I have no regrets and wouldn’t have done it any differently.
It’s been awesome.

Being a nutritionist I branched off into creating my own gluten free baking business which really took off.
Then when I retired I opened up an Etsy shop and sold handcrafted hair accessories made from wood, metal and / or beads.
It has been lots of fun and profitable also.

Most of my relatives work from home , make great income and enjoy it.

That's cool, keesha. Were the wooden/metal/bead hair accessories hand made by you or outsourced (outside of you or foreign)?
They were made by me! 81ED9505-EEB4-4E11-A662-FC4C4CDE458B.jpg

It was difficult learning how to turn acrylic on the lathe after turning wood. Those things spin at really high speeds and with ptsd I’d sometimes spook myself . Jumping at this point can be quite dangerous. It is fun but I have to admit that I became quite the bead hoarderer. Handcarving was fun to learn though.
