Do you like doing this, going to other families' Christmas gatherings?

As was stated earlier in the thread, some folks have a way of gathering "the strays" and it absolutely works. We have enjoyed that before. But generally speaking, no, I would prefer to stay home than feel like a third wheel.

My own family yes, other people's definitely no... regardless of how welcoming they are I still feel very out of place!!

Exactly so!

whenever anybody asks me if I get lonely I point to all the people in the street and say "They are not strangers. They are just friends I have not yet met."!
