Could This Be Why MD's Don't Preach Prevention

I don't know why you always paint your opinions with such a broad brush. My doctor is a proponent of prevention, so obviously your "brainwashed in medical school" pronouncement is hogwash.

We get it... you are not a fan of the medical establishment. Simple answer for YOU; don't use them. I'll keep doing what works best for me.
 
One of my cousins has a son who became a doctor. He says that at least 1/4 of his time spent in med school was learning to recognize symptoms, and automatically connect the symptoms to a prescription drug. Little time was spent on "preventative" care, and trying to induce patients to alter their bad habits that often lead to health issues. There is little or no money to be made in trying to get people to live a healthier lifestyle, but the Health Care Industry reaps 10's of billions every year by convincing people that a "Pill" is the solution to their problems.
 

My doctor is also a proponent of prevention but she is not a teacher, she is a doctor. People learn basic health in school and should take some responsibility for their own preventative care. When I see my doc I don't sit at a desk in a classroom.... I'm sick and need help or just having a check up.

While you repeatedly put down the medical community and pharmacy, have a care you don't turn someone away from a needed medicine or medical procedure and they suffer for it. It could be your fault.

If you think Pharma needs the mega profits they make and putting $$$ before the people then this is where you are. I'm not there. People go suffering often due to costs of drugs. My sister was always shocked everytime the MS docs were wanting to try a new MS drug and then the fights with the insurance company to "pay" for the drugs that didn't keep her alive.

I have a lot of good reasons to feel as I do.

I have seen people walk away from a pharmacy counter due to the cost of the drug their doctor prescribed. I care about people NOT the god ugly $$$$$.

Doctors NEED the people to be sick and in need of their drugs and surgery.

Everybody has their own minds and I'm not alone on this thinking. I"m a member of other health groups and omg, my words are mild.

And yes if I really need to be put back together or really sick I would seek help...otherwise I do so much for myself and stay away from doctors.

My belief is that my sister could still be alive if she were not so drugged with all the toxins they pushed down her for the MS. Oh the $1000's they made on her and she's gone at 68. She put too much faith in those drugs.
 
No I don't suspect malpractice, but there are MANY treatments for MS besides the constant barage of toxic drugs into one's body. I tried to guide my sister on nutrition and other alternative treatments but she only heard the great white specialists and their drugs. Those drugs are TOXIC. They kept telling her the drugs would slow down the progression and she wanted to believe them so kept them going into her body, so so many....so can I blame her too, maybe but the one sided MD's...are who I blame more and their $$$ sign drugs.
 
I think that doctors do what they were trained to do, treat patients with prescription drugs, etc. I rarely go to a doctor and so far I've been lucky enough to do so. A couple of the doctors I've seen over the years commended me for using supplements and getting some form of daily exercise in, although I was always a little overweight in my later years. But I didn't expect them to recommend vitamins and supplements, that's not what they are taught or paid to do.

Everyone has the freedom to do preventative things to prevent disease, to avoid Type 2 diabetes they can watch their weight and take beneficial supplements, to avoid osteoporosis, they can take vitamin D3, k2 and eat a healthy diet and do some weight bearing exercise, as simple as walking, etc.

These days people can go to a natural doctor or homeopath if they desire a more natural preventative treatment. Traditional MDs can't willy-nilly start recommending natural alternatives or preventatives or they would be in trouble. You can't blame the doctors themselves for this. There are times when people need doctors, surgeons and prescription meds, and I'm glad they are available when desperately needed.

I'm really sorry about your sister Jam, but like you said you tried to guide her on nutrition and alternatives, she's the one who chose not to do what you recommended and that was her freedom of choice. There are those in my family who choose to follow their doctor's recommendations as opposed to going out on their own and trying alternative treatments. Everyone has to do what feels right for them, there's a chance either way that things may not have worked out for the best. There's no guarantees with traditional medicines or alternatives, we can pick which things to try, or sometimes a combination of the two.

I agree we all need to weigh our options and do what we feel is right for our particular situation.

I listen to my PCP, sometimes I accept his treatment recommendations and sometimes I take a wait and see approach.

In the end, it is my choice and I'm the one that has to live with the consequences of my decisions.

Makes a lot of sense Bea, we are all ultimately in charge of our bodies and the decisions we make for our health.
 
Knowing myself and if I had a dread disease I would use both allopathic and alternatives...

My dread is OA and I use Ibuprofen and the rest alternative remedies.

Although I believe alternatives should be first in the line of attack on just about everything.

No I'm not a fancier of pharma, I've been thru some stuff and some loved ones too. And one can find info about the 100,000's of deaths from drug interactions annually. We few here are nothing in the big picture.
