Protesters At Local MLK Breakfast

This morning was the annual MLK Breakfast here in Jacksonville, FL.. What is different this year is that there are protesters outside walking with signs talking about all the gun crime here. When the area elected a new Mayor and Sheriff a couple of years ago, both vowed to stop the gun violence/killings here. Some people have even renamed this city "Murderville".

The protesters want the Mayor replaced. They also want jobs and other things put into the high crime areas here. I told my wife, "What company would be in their right mind to want to be in any of these high crime areas here? And, as far as investing money into different things in those areas, the gangs aren't going to let that happen."

Martin Luther King had a dream, but "that dream" doesn't seem to come true in cities like Jacksonville, FL and the part of Chicago that has had so, so many black-on-black murders...…...like here.

HOPEFULLY, sometime this summer, we won't have to worry about all of this crime...…..won't be here!
What do you think?

I was actually typing a reply to this post but I accidentally touched something and got taken elsewhere....that’s a sign for me to stay out of this one, lol.

But...I think you should care about crime, eventually it will reach you too...no matter where you move.

CeeCee, no reason not to reply. Anyway,

ou haven't been everywhere, cities or towns, in this U.S., have you? I haven't been everywhere either, but do know there are areas in the U.S. where crime is a whole lot less than here. I have the news apps for two northern Colorado cities and, believe me, the crime there is so low, it's like unbelievable. I'm not talking about any part of the Denver metro area, like Parker is, I'm talking about the northern end of The Front Range.
Crime and gun violence isn't everywhere, like it is here.

Jacksonville has always had problems with gun violence, but people here think more about their nice income and going out on the weekends, than the crime.

Elected officials are constantly saying they are going to stop the gun violence, but...……….just hasn't happened.

One other thing I thought about CeeCee, why is it that you are so, so against me talking about the crime here or us moving. At least that's what your reply implies, but I could definitely be wrong. If I am, I'm sorry, but.

Would you be against measures to restrict the sale of guns or would you support sterner actions?

JSO statics say that the guns used here in crimes are stolen. Actually, I just don't see any kind of resolution to the problem, but there are some here that want something done.

This whole "Protesting" thing is due to MLK day and how many murders there are here...…….black on black murders in different areas. Thankfully, these murders haven't been in the area where we live.

Ok, but your word "wrong" is in all caps. Sort of like you are angry.

Anyway...………..on with the Thread.

Im not angry, just frustrated that that you post the same thing over and over using different words.

Yes, on with the thread...without me. I’m done ...should have listened to my inner voice that told me not to get involved in another one of your posts.

Have you ever gone back and reread all your posts on this or others forums?

It was a news headline story! What's so wrong with that? You do know, if you don't like what I post, or do as a Thread, it's plain and simple...……..don't reply or "Hide" me! I really don't care what other posts I've done on here or whatever.

ooooopps........appears that this is a "controversial" Thread that shouldn't have been done. What can I say, but "oh well".

You know how to silence these critics once and for all, right? Don't mention "move to Colorado" TILL you move to Colorado. I'm a brand newbie and even eye see that.

Or not.

So, I should've kept Colorado out of the Thread, is that what you are saying? Perhaps I should've said "Sheridan, Wyoming has less crime than here". Perhaps that would've worked. Then again, perhaps not.

Dang, just what to do, what to say?????

I know, I know, danged if you do, danged if you don't. Just compared crime rate of your present location to Mumbai, India. Mumbai is safer.

Not that it matters, but I like the song “Smokey Mountain Rain” sung by Ronnie Milsap better. JMO.

Do you or can you imagine how many times I have heard people say, “I never thought that would happen here in this small bedroom community?”

Also, just to make you aware, in the law community, Colorado is noted for being soft on crime. I just don’t know why.

I think you're right CR in that, in hindsight, perhaps this thread shouldn't have been started. Heaven knows there are plenty of other places on the web for people to debate their political views.

I for one, however, find your enthusiasm about your impending move to be refreshing. People here sometimes express dissatisfaction with their current circumstances, be they physical, relational, financial, &c. I like it that you're excited about working to change yours.

Finally, a forum member who truly understands! Wife and I say, "Thank you very much!!".
