Professional baseball player Bryce Harper just got a 330 MILLION dollar contract. Repeat 330 MILLION dollar contract to play a game.

That being said it is a free market. Fans can or cannot pay the exorbitant ticket, parking, concession, tv packages etc. The millionaire owners can or cannot agree to pay their employees that much money. He is also the second player in the same sport to get a similar mega contract this year.

But someone is going to wind up paying for these mega contracts wether it's the fans or tax payers who have to fund these millionaire playgrounds called a stadium.

Personally it's obscene and a put all your eggs in one basket strategy. But I'd rather see all involved have the right to choose.

I agree that it should be illegal to fund these stadiums by forcing taxpayers who don't give a damn about baseball to pay an extra penny of sales tax on every purchase they make. If everybody cared as little about baseball as I do these major leaguers would have to be selling cookies in front of Walmart like the Girl Scouts do in order to raise money for their uniforms.

These contracts are probably part of the reason owners can't or won't fund their own stadiums themselves. The public in these cities and states wind up paying for these players one way or another. Along with giving charitable donations to team owners.

I think the New York Yankees built and paid for the new Yankee stadium at a cost of around $1.2 billion, or so I have read. The other stadiums were paid for by taxpayer money, which is a bunch of crap. I am helping to pay for a stadium so these guys with some baseball skills can go earn a wage far beyond anything anyone else will ever be able to comprehend as to why?

If it weren't for TV revenues and sponsorships, the teams would never be able to pay for these salaries. Truthfully, I just don't get it. We have doctors in operating rooms saving lives everyday and their salary will never be anywhere near what these guys are making. LeBron James now has a net worth of over $1 billion, thanks to Nike and his other endorsements. I could care less if he wears Nike. I go into a shoe store, look over the inventory, try a few pair on that catch my eye, try them on for fit and then buy the pair that fits and suits my style, whether it be Nike, Reebok, New Balance or whatever. The yuppies and the young kids but the $200 shoes, not me. It's almost ludicrous.

Disgusting that citizens have to fund these stadiums. I also couldn't care less about these "sports".

They should be funded by ticket sales, not what's going into the players and owner's pockets so much! If fans want to contribute, fine but people who don't care shouldn't have to foot the bill.

The sad thing is, yes, the "fans" can pay these exorbitant prices if they so choose but these prices are slowly eliminating the game for all but the wealthy. Just another way that our country is catering to the "haves" and saying to hell with the "have nots".

IMO if the taxpayers subsidize the game or the stadium the teams should be required to set aside blocks of tickets at low enough prices to ensure that people at all income levels have an opportunity to attend a few games. It makes me sad that the days of a neighborhood dad loading a bunch of kids into the station wagon to attend a game are gone forever.

Players salaries don't bother me, some folks with no talent end up winning a billion dollars in the lottery.

One of the side effects of excessive gouging like pricing with any aspect of the game is that it does take out future fans because as a child who could not afford to attend, buy souvenirs etc they will have less interest in the game as an adult making money with disposable income.

The baseball card market is a perfect example of this. Around the mid 90s they got rid of the cheap packs with bubble gum and catered to collectors with fancy gold or silver trimmed cards etc costing around a 1 dollar a card. By the turn of the century the card market was all but dead and many sports were relying on the super box style seating ie catering to the rich or corporate America. This is part of the reason bad teams might fill a 1/4 of the stadium. Throw in excessive ticket, parking and concession prices future generations of potential paying fans have already been taken out of the picture.

I guess they will take baseball and ruin it like they did with football, it all started with players salaries
.
