When I was born in 1950, there was plenty of German stuff lying around our house and property, which they had occupied during WW2. My friends and I wore the German helmets when playing our war games. I got a thrashing for kicking around a live grenade like a football when I was ten, not realising what it was!
Living on islands in The Pacific with my dad, there was a lot of WWII stuff in the water, on the reef, in the jungle from ships, planes, guns, bombs and bullets too . . . bones.
I remember when I was in Germany that we came across a couple of pill boxes that been shot up
roof bust in and they were some mortar round still inside and this was in the latter part of 1957.
My tour of duty was very good in Germany I would like to go back someday.
