What Proof Do You Have Validating At Least A Part Of You Is A Cheapskate?

Paper Towels-rather than rip off a whole towel for a little spot I tear of a part of the towel for the job. Also I never leave light on that I' m not using. I shower turning the water off after I am wet then lather up then rinse and I don't pay a water bill I just don't like wasting water ever.
 

No,I see nothing wrong with the things you mention,fmdog...I too,will NOT have lights on in rooms I'm not using,I too,rip off a section of paper-towel rather than a whole sheet-and I can not be expected to flush,every time I have a p1ss! No-2nd time,I will...but not EVERY bloody time! OR water the bloody lawn! I have ACRES of lawn here...so let the WORMS do it...and anyway-this is ENGLAND-known for good manners,bad tv-and rain! So if we have 10 days of warm,sunny,dry weather-you can bet your SOCKS it'll POUR on day 11!
 
My paternal grandmother taught me to scrimp on the necessities so I could splurge on the luxuries and I've never forgotten that lesson.

If a paper towel is just wet but clean I will dry it on the kitchen rack, I rinse the shampoo bottle a couple of times to get the last bit, merge the soap chips into the new bar of soap, cut up old envelopes for shopping lists, save plastic bread bags to reuse, use plastic grocery sacks as garbage bags, etc...

We dry our cloths on a cloths line in the back yard rather than run up our electric bill by using the dryer. If its raining and we have to dry something we put it on a rack in front of our wood heater. We heat our house with wood we get free from Oak trees that died in our back field.

Actually we probably have the best TV in the world...sorry just had to say that... ;)
 
Most of the things already mentioned validate mine, especially Aunt Bees, I always say I’m not tight fisted but I’m not stupid either ...:whome:

I do the same. I also rinse the detergent, dish detergent and other bottles to use it all. Instead of buying note pads, I use junk mail envelopes, etc to make notes and lists.
 
I've never use the dryers in our laundry room in my apartment building complex,its a waste of electricity
I get the afternoon sun in my bedroom,during the warmer months when my windows are open,the laundry smells fresher
I don't like AC,I use fans instead.I have my windows open in the livingroom because I get the afternoon sun.If its really hot&humid,I'll have the fan on until I go to bed.The fan in my bedroom will be on all night if need be

When my toothpaste tube is nearing the end I make sure the cap is screwed tight, cut the tube about and inch from the cap, open the tube and there’s enough for another week !

I've always tried to conserve resources, but being a "cheapskate" is abhorrent to me. I had enough money before I retired but now it's tough so, for that reason I must economize. I never liked being around stingy people who are that way for no other reason.
 
I'm not a "cheapskate" I am frugal.....

I make my own laundry detergent.
I use newspapers a lot instead of paper towels (for draining things).
I cut my dryer sheets in half.
I also make my own fabric softener.
I wash ziplocs. Only if they have had bread in them,never ones that have had meat.
That last little bit of lotion in a bottle is mine even if I have to cut it open.

I'm sure this is only the tip of the iceberg. I just hate to pay for overpriced things.

I'm not a cheapskate, but refuse to donate to every charity that asks - just because. Especially offensive to me are check out clerks in stores who try to nail you to donate to some cause because they pressure you and try to make you look cheap and nasty in front of others if you refuse. Hey, my money is my money. Hands off. This makes me feel Scrooge like sometimes, but ultimately, I'm responsible for myself.

well...See this is why I am frugal so I can donate to my favorite charities....Been donating to Disabled American Veterans for years...

Yes we are only responsible for ourselves...got to do what is best for us. This enables us to do for others as we choose.
 
Wow, Chic! That surprises me! I've never, ever had a checkout clerk ask me to donate to a charity. The closest I can recall might be a little canister on the counter marked "Save the Earthworms" or some such nonsense. Easy to ignore.

Have I missed something? I can't imagine a checkout clerk who did that lasting very long on the job.

Yes, you have missed something.

It's not that unusual. I've experienced it at big name stores (Walgreens, Kroger, CVS, etc.) - the management must instruct the cashiers. Cashiers aren't just making the decision on their own.

I always say No, and complete the transaction.

Strange you haven't experienced it. You must not do much shopping.

That has become quite common in my area.

The one that annoys me is the Christmas appeal from the Dollar Store to give an extra dollar so they can contribute an item from the store to charity. If they had a little skin in the game and said they would donate two items for each dollar then I would probably do it.

The Goodwill has a round-up-campaign where they ask you to round your purchase price up to the next dollar as a donation to them which I refuse but I do participate in the grocery store scan away hunger campaigns where you donate a couple of bucks towards a meal.

Just smile and say: No, thank you! Charity begins at home this month.
 
I’m pretty generous. I’m not wasteful but don’t sweat the small stuff. Ive always been like this, no matter how much or little money I had.

I don’t buy myself much...hardly anything but I will splurge on food...not to the extreme but that’s my luxury.

I always give something at the checkouts...but not every time I go to that store.
