If you were in the service, do you consider yourself a "Vet"?

I felt uncomfortable joining the VFW with the "W" being the point of contention. The guy who was sponsoring me set the tone with this: "Look you served a full three year hitch between '61 and '64 and you got an honorable discharge...right?" I replied; "Yes". "OK", he says, "The Berlin Wall went...

    Brrrr,its cold outside

The temps here in Wisconsin have been ranging from 0 to -17. Yesterday, we woke up to frozen pipes...no water to shower, toilet, or kitchen. Bizarrely, the bathroom sink had both hot and cold available...that eased the situation. On occasions like this, I used to place electric heaters under the...

News I can't keep up with what they're saying, too fast

I hear you. I watched Kellyanne Conway (Trump's mindless mouthpiece) endlessly babbling through a ten minute interview where the host had to yell just to comment.

    Hot !

It is hot...90's of late. But, what...me worry? As long as the well pump works...life is good.

    Pushing the season...beyond reason?

Well, the nights are finally staying above 40F. The flowers and seedlings are all responding. Page and I decided to enjoy them...and the morning sun. We have a passing cool wave right now but in two days it looks like consistent summer temps. Life is good.

If you could have any vehicle....

I once owned a 1970 Eldorado. 502 cubic inches of front wheel drive power. I could beat Harleys off the line. Leather upholstery, tinted windows, and a killer stereo made it a rolling lounge. I bought it for $100.00 in 1979 after it's owner thought he permanently froze the engine running it...

    Pushing the season...beyond reason?

The container plants are pushing through the soil. I put salad makings in containers for daily access...radishes, spinach, scallions, lettuce, and a couple roma tomatoes. I'll have to cover them tonight...frost warning (the last I think). Tomorrow I'll be planting squash and green bush...

This years garden is almost done!!

Jersey has a maritime climate...I envy you. You will always be warmer than I in Winter. Actually,I've been watching our climate change to just that in the past few decades. We have "NorEasters" enclosed within the great lakes. The temps and wind come out of the plains and double up in Wisconsin...

What do you do for exercise? What motivates you to do it?

I clear brush and dead trees from our land...to stay fit and improve the property. I plant, maintain, and draw preserves from...a large garden. I like tomatoes that taste like tomatoes...not cardboard. I swim in our pool every Summer day over 80 degrees...because I love it. I won't work out...

Show Us Your Fur or Feathered Kids!

This is "Page" on her perch about to dive off. I got her as a stray eight years ago at the shelter with part of her ear chewed off. She wouldn't eat anything but dry food and was always rather emaciated till last summer. She had been strictly a house cat but I felt I had to try improving her...

    Pushing the season...beyond reason?

Well, the heater worked. I forgot to get a pic before I tore down the temporary (cardboard) ductwork and heater. If I need the set up again, I'll get one. At any rate, they all survived. You're right Ruth...the tomatoes will just sit there till warm is 24/7...but they are here. It's only 48...

    Pushing the season...beyond reason?

I started my garden seedlings early...way early. We had 70's for several days two weeks back and I succumbed to my S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder). Winter had been hanging over my consciousness like a gray rag for months. The brilliant sunlight and warm breezes galvanized me into my...

    A Fun Question for Sunday.

Layer cake. And if the question were about deserts...I'd be the "Painted" desert in Arizona. Notice those layers? ;)
