    Anything Scottish, just for fun!

I used to see these 'puffers' sailing to and from Campbeltown in Kintyre town across to N.Ireland to collect lime for construction works.

    Anything Scottish, just for fun!

Two true stories from this part of Scotland. I'll let you read about them yourselves.. 1. From my nearest town, a bronze statue of the Turra Coo. Played a part in the introduction of insurance for farm workers in the early 20th. century. The tragic story of Jamie MacPherson and the...

Still sniffing and sneezing, probably due to the high pollen count, although it's dropping now. Doing a bit of work refreshing the bathroom, cleaning the tiles, grout etc.. nothing very exciting. It's less than two weeks till our daughter comes to visit, so I'd better get things tidied up...

What exercise have you done today?

Far too warm here for anything strenuous, but I'm trying to get some more tidying done before daughter comes to visit in a couple of weeks. Come rain or come shine, I will soon have to cut the grass in the garden. I've often wondered how far I walk up and down the garden, but I don't have a...

Are Left-Handed People Quicker Thinkers Than Right-Handers?

In my primary school in the 50's we still used 'dipping pens' and ink wells. Some pens had a blue band and these were for left handers. I've been told that this was remarkably advanced for the 50's as many schools forced pupils to be right handed. My elder daughter is left handed. I don't...

I would appear to have 'Hay fever'. I've never been troubled before, but the pollen count is very high and a lot of people are suffering from it. Hopefully, it won't last too long as I've got a lot to do in the garden.

    Whats For Dinner/Supper ?

Potato AND pasta. As my daughter puts it, That's wrong on so many levels. . I should not complain - I'm afraid that the Scottish diet often features pasta and chips- that's French fries if you're posh. A shame in a country that produces some of the world's best produce. I'm...

Is having to arrive 3 hours before departure efficient?

My local airport suggests 2 hours international and 1 1/2 hours domestic. Check in and security has been upgraded recently and the process is pretty smooth. My main concern is connection times for multi-stage trips. Many airlines will allow booking flights with unrealistic connection...

When we were on holiday in Utrecht, Netherlands, Mrs.L bought a very large bulb of garlic from a market stall. When we returned home, she planted the garlic cloves and today, we dug them up. Now we have a good crop of garlic, but no idea what variety they are. No problem, I'm sure they'll...

Gregg Wallace being fired from BBC for inappropriate behavior.

As I understand it, he was a wholesale grocer who was hired as a 'man in the street' / 'cheeky chappie' to add a bit of levity to the cooking competition. However it is alleged that he acted 'inappropriately' both physically and verbally to female contestants. I thought that in Masterchef...

It's warm here. Not unknown, but it's unusual for it to be so warm 24C / 75 F at 10 a.m. Of course it's much warmer in other places and we'd be complaining if it was cold. This is one of the very rare times that A/C would be nice to have. Usually what we need is a heater.
