Geez. Now I have to learn a whole new language?

Bespoke comes from 'Bespeak', literally to speak for something'. It was first cited in 1583 and means to request goods or services in advance. Originally it referred to clothing and footwear which would be made to order. The term Charcuterie is often seen in butchers and delicatessens.

    I really remember when...

In the days before vaccinations, measles, mumps etc.. weren't so much diseases as 'rites of passage'. Young girls would have 'rubella parties' to deliberately catch the disease to protect them from possible serious effects in adulthood.

What Popular T.V. Shows Never Interested You?

I don't watch any TV 'Soaps' or 'dating' shows. There are some good factual and documentary programmes which I watch.

Are there family members, who kind of fell away from the family?

I and my siblings all married and lived reasonably near each other for a while, though with little contact. I was the one who made the break, mainly because I wanted to, and I had the good fortune to be offered a good job with IBM at the opposite end of the country . It never occurred to me...

How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

Very windy here, but it's a warm wind. We've been sitting in the summerhouse - fortunately sheltered by the trees, doing a jigsaw. I just hope a tree doesn't fall on us. If any branches fall, I saw them into logs for the fire, after they've been seasoned.

    What Businesses will Disappear?

We're much the same, especially with Lidl where the layout rarely changes. Tesco, on the other hand, keeps moving things around and shopping takes a lot longer than it should. I'm always on the lookout for bargains, but Tesco 'bargains' are often not much less than full price.

    High Fashion is Just Weird

I think it is misunderstood. This is simply fashion designers displaying their ideas and egos on the catwalk. It may have no immediate connection with everyday clothing, but the idea of using different materials in different ways might be adapted to mainstream fashion. It's a bit like space...

What are you cooking or baking today?

This evening. a mixed grill of lamb chops, sausage, lamb kidney, onion rings and chips. Not the prettiest dish, but you'll never know as I've given up taking photos. I'm relaxing this evening with a pint of Red MacGregor - a wonderfully hoppy beer from Orkney and a dram of Sweet smoke from...

Are there family members, who kind of fell away from the family?

I'm also in the 'that would be me' camp. My parents had four 'only' children of whom I am the youngest. We all chose different and divergent paths to walk. I'm not sure if any are still alive.

Do you prefer sun rise or sun set?

Definitely sunset. Our lounge faces west so I can watch the sunset and some wonderfully coloured clouds. This pic was taken from my lounge window..

Grocery bill this week was $101.27

In spite of living near a large fishing port, the cost of fish here has gone up a lot a large amount. The exception is salmon which is farmed. Beef and lamb are becoming very much a luxury, but pork and chicken -and eggs- are reasonably priced.

Tram car accident in Lisbon Portugal kills 15 after crashing into a building

The Funicular railway was a very popular tourist attraction in Lisbon. I've been there a number of times, but never taken the Funicular as it was generally very busy. A very sad day in what is a beautiful historic city.

Do you periodically inventory your pantry and refrigerator…..

I don't 'inventory' anything. Every now and again, I rummage through the contents of my freezers and see what I've got - or forgotten.
