Yes, it certainly is expensive. I can only speak as a visitor, but I would recon that food, drink etc. is about 50% more than UK . Against that, it was relatively cheap to rent an apartment and rail travel was very reasonable. When it comes to alcohol over 4.7%, this can only be bought in a...

How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

In the week we've been away, the grass has started to shoot up, so I got the lawn mower out of it's little shed. It was a devil to start initially, having been laid up all winter, but it's fine now. Then I saw some starlings trying to get under the roof of my workshop, so I abandoned the...

Do you have any facial wrinkles?

The story goes that in a conversation between Mick Jagger and the Jazz musician, George Melly, George commented on Mick's wrinkled face. Mick said, they're laughter lines, to which George replied, nothing is that funny, Mick

    Last lot of Norway pics.

The view from our apartment wasn't exactly inspiring, but it was in the centre of town and convenient for most things. Approaching Egersund by train. Egersund is a pretty town, but it was almost totally deserted. Shops were open, but no customers to be seen. This pic shows the...

A typical shopping street in Stavanger. Note the cobble stones which are a feature of the city streets. Unfortunately, it did rain occasionally. A spring day in the old part of the city. Another part of the old town, not such good weather that day.

Good morning folks.. Just back from a short holiday in Stavanger, Norway. We flew directfrom Aberdeen which was great not having to suffer the hell that is Heathrow. This is the first time that we had used the Norwegian airline Wideroe, and the service was absolutely first class both ways. I...

Do you like your middle name?

It is, or was, the custom to give the eldest child the mother's maiden name as their middle name. Mrs.L has 3 'first' names, but only uses the third one which is a portmanteau of her parents' names.

Bags packed, Checked in on-line and as long as the flight isn't cancelled, blown away, or otherwise disrupted, we're off at a ridiculously early hour to Norway for a week. Years ago I would have sent a postcard, but I've packed my camera and if the weather isn't too bad, I might take a few...

Rain this morning, but dry, warm and windy this afternoon. The weather so far has not been as bad as the forecast suggests, so no travel disruption in this area. Flights coming and going as normal.

Why did you give the names your kids/pets?

My children have quite traditional names, but they're not so common today. We chose first names to be different from our own or any family member. I wanted to call our elder daughter Chloé , but was overruled by SWMBO.
