    Confess: do ya...or don't ya...

There is no need to find my own mistakes and self-announce them to myself or others. My spouse will find and announce drips, goofs, calculation errors and stains in laundry, out loud and usually in front of others if possible.

The absolute peak of luxury as a child

As a 7-year old that never ever encountered air conditioning, in the hot sweaty summer the parks & recreation system offered a 1-hour ride on a passenger train for 25 cents. It was air conditioned - in 1959 - I could not comprehend how absolutely comfortable dry cool air was!!

How do you invest your money?

Answering the OP question, our portfolio - pretty much the easy concepts recommended by the late John Bogle. He showed a simple three fund setup of index funds with an asset allocation (annuities/bonds/cash) that you can sleep with. For 9 years in retirement (no earned income), we have AA of...

Does anyone have vintage receivers, speakers, phono

Have an old Scott receiver, Sony PTS-215 turntable and RSL 12” 3-way speakers, all still work. Regrettably, the old Marantz 1152DC stereo amp died (that thing really pumped out music/watts!).

Do you think ex's can be just friends?

In my case, nope. Absolutely nope.

Urgent 'do not eat' warning issued for popular sweets made by Hershey

Um, no - Life Savers abandoned their plant in Holland, Michigan to move production to some factory in Canada because "sugar was cheaper" and laid off 600+ dedicated workers for the corporate "almighty dollar". I've boycotted and for life will never purchase any other Life Saver product to...

The Inflation Report came out today and all was quiet.

I do not agree with these numbers from wherever they came. Last year, pork steaks were 4.49 per pound, yesterday the store had 'em at 6.78 per pound. Gas for my vehicle was 2.98 per gallon, today it was 3.34 per gallon. My internet + cable stations was $121 per year, now $157 per year. My car...

Any ideas about repairing or replacing a CD player?

Here's a thought - like old vinyl records, some albums have only one, maybe 2 songs you really want to hear. How about digitizing the few songs on each CD disc all into MP3 files, put them all on a 32GB USB thumb drive and play that on most modern sound players, DVD player or even the computer...

    Do You Have a Recliner?

We have 2 of 'em. One really old electric downstairs in the man-cave, the other a manual up in the flex room.

Do you feel like you HAVE to do something constructive every day?

No, nope, aint gonna happen.... It did a little at first, but soon became "the few hours I have left here are for me, not thee (with exception for my better half, of course).

Are you living in the same area as you grew up?

I've lived in different parts of the USA since leaving home, and happy to have done so. When visiting folks back where I was raised, those who just stayed, I wonder about how seemingly limited and local their thinking is yet how solid, rooted, content and established they are. To each their own.

God, or not? A Christian Discussion

Somewhere in readings required by a previous employer, was a tome (maybe "How To Win Friends And Influence people") which stated that talk of three things should be avoided with others: 1. Religious beliefs 2. Money 3. Politics because some people are unable or unwilling to listen or...

Are you still in the stock market?

Somewhere (search wizards may find this better than I) are reports of how people, psychologically, are more likely to want keeping their existing hoard than growing it. I've been anchored in that mindset for 10 years now. Nothing wrong with asset allocation of (equities/bonds/cash) 35/60/5...
