Too much baking powder for the amount of flour. 1.5 cup is aprox 240 g flour and you should use only 1/2 tsp baking powder. And eventually too much vanilla extract too. That can cause a bitter taste too

Right now it's -19C and very windy. At least much better than what we went through for the past week. Now we will go to the next extreme, tomorrow and Saturday it will be a high of -1C and on the weekend 1-3 C plus. Also rain (freezing rain), snow. After that back to the low minus temperatures...
