I just discovered something useful about how the forums work here - I'm such an idiot

For a long time I wondered why I never got any notice of postings by people or threads I'd followed. I always expected they would just show up when I clicked on the bell icon. Nope. Then just this evening I clicked on "What's new" and then "Your news Feed" and voila! There they are! It's horrible being born a man and constitutionally unable to ask for help.

I'm posting this in case there are others of my kind here stumbling in the dark .. and to ask about other shortcuts people have found useful. Thanks!

Yeah you can turn em on or off. Just click on your user name and choose what you want. It's your privacy or interests. I'm interested in what Senior's comment but turn off the other Forums.

Don't feel bad. I've been on Seniors for a long time and I had no idea about this either. Thanks for the tip.

don't worry you've probably enlightened 2/3 's of the membership already !

Thanks for the tip.

Is there any way to block a subforum if I don't want to see the threads in a certain category?

No. Sorry. See this is why I hoped my wife would get more involved here. I call her my technology bulldog. When she gets hold of a problem like that she’ll chew it over until she comes up with something. I’m more the hmm-what-else-can-I-do kind of guy. Problem solving for its own sake doesn’t draw me unless I find something interesting in it over and above its instrumental use.

But I get the feeling @papa tiger might know.

I don't know if there's a way to block subforums but when looking at list of new posts the name of the subforum is right there on second line. Even if the title caught your eye, it should be easy enough to check that and just ignore any on forums you wish to avoid.
