Yesterday was a bit of a mixed bag. We set off in the morning to catch the bus to the city, but it never came much to the annoyance of the people waiting for it. The next bus was due in 30 mins, but it arrived 15 mins late. Anyway, we finally reached the city, but had little time to have lunch before going to the theatre. The play - read on for this - ran for longer than we expected, and then guess what, the next bus back home was cancelled. This meant waiting another hour, so we went for a meal at the adjacent shopping mall. We went to a Thai restaurant which was busy, but as it turned out was OK, but not very good.
Caught the next bus home, and that had a bit of drama too. First, a very drunk man staggered on to the bus and having managed to find this bus pass, fell over and scattered the contents of his pockets over the floor - coins, banknotes, etc all over the place. A lady who obviously knew the man helped gather everything up and shoved him into a seat where he fortunately fell asleep. Off we go. Coming out of the city, a police car stopped a bus and two officers jumped on board. One checked down the bus and the other checked the upper deck. Obviously didn't find who they were looking for. They smiled, wished up a good evening, and drove off. We eventually got home.
OK- the play. It was 'Me and my girl' and was performed by the youth musical society. This is an amateur theatre and music group with senior and junior sections. The seniors are, I recon, mostly late teens.
It was absolutely FANTASTIC. A large cast, spectacular costumes, wonderful acting, and a professional band for the music. It was hard to believe that this was an amateur production. This would stand up against a good number of professional shows that I have seen. The audience would appear to agree too - A standing ovation, and 3 curtain calls. This was musical theatre at its best.
