World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. If you abuse your elders, be AWARE. Jesus is watching!

Much of the abuse that the elderly face is at the hands of well meaning but busy family and friends.

Take time to make the call, pay a visit, include them in your daily activities and listen to them.

Important post, thanks. Unfortunately, in my area and state, the agencies that deal with elder abuse are pretty toothless. On a state site, it related that they had diminished funding for this because they had been "getting inundated" with fake elder abuse reports which turned out to be grown children who were feuding with each other and wrongfully turning each other in for elder abuse; the officers would arrive at the supposedly abused elder's home and he or she was just fine, not being abused at all. I don't know if I believe what the state says; I think unfortunately that elder abuse happens all too often.

I've been working in nursing homes since 1996. We never abuse the elderly. They are our friends. We see them every day we go to work. We talk with them and share a lot of laughs with them.

Sometimes I feel we are on the verge of being abused in hospitals and stuff because of neglect and them treating us like we're all bat sh*t crazy.
