When people are drinking takeaway coffee on TV and in movies

I believe you, I don't drink coffee but if I did I would buy the cup only. Use it for home brewed coffee, rinse and reuse. Some people do it to look "cool". Look at me, I can afford it. I could pay a car payment with the money some people spend on coffee.

There are people that spend hundreds of dollars a month at these places. They go 3 times a day, at $5 a pop.

Almost 100% of the time the cup is empty.
A giveaway is the hollow sound when the cup is placed on a solid surface.
Fooling no one.
Yeah, I know, frivolous observation/post, but šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
Yes, I've noticed that. The other thing that makes drinking a hot beverage phony in a film or series is that when one character hands a freshly made and capped cup to another character, they immediately tip it halfway back and swallow-- like it was a half empty cold soft drink.

A freshly capped cup of coffee or tea is very hot. They'd have to wait until it cooled before they took a sip. And even then they'd only tip it back a little.

I see that again and again in either U.S. or Brit series. I wish I didn't notice things like that...šŸ˜„

A similar not-true-to-life scenario is when someone orders or is served an alcoholic beverage. It's always just the booze in a glass. No ice, no mixer. It's exceedingly rare for people to drink booze that way. Of course the directors don't want to use ice because it would rattle, and possibly cause audio interference. But it's phony.

Another movie thing that irks me is two people, siting at a bar ,are drinking a coke or beer. When the camera is on A, the glass is full, when the camera is on B the same glass is half full. Back to A- full glass. Back to B-half full. Back to A- full,....... on and on .
Continuity issues abound in so many movies.
How do the Script Supervisors keep their jobs? :D

The number of takes of a certain scene is what is at fault. When I was a kid, a movie company came to our town. Some times it took all day for one scene to be done to the satisfaction of the director. I decided then I didn't want to be an actor or have anything to do with the film industry.

I read somewhere that when characters are supposed to be drinking beverages, it's really just colored water. Makes sense, I guess. With all the retakes, those actors would be under the table if the drinks were real.

And aside from alcohol, some people are allergic to various drinks, some of them hate the drinks, some are on diets, etc. But they certainly make those glasses of wine look real.

They do this all the time on the Hallmark movies. They hardly allow themselves time to swallow the so called hot chocolate they're drinking before they start talking again..lol...It's so noticeable.

Here's a movie thing that irks me. Why does the main character have to throw up? Am I the only one noticing this? Seems like 50% of the movies have a vomit scene. Completely unnecessary, imo, and gross. Is it supposed to make the movie 'edgy' or 'shocking'?

I agree 100%. It's use is revolting. But one sees memes like this a lot. Once someone innovates a technique or a situation, many writers fall all over themselves including it in their scripts.

Another one? Why does everyone stabbed, shot, bludgeoned, or killed by other means always have to have blood pooling around their head??? It oftentimes doesn't fit...

A thing that sort of tickles me is in gun/shooting scenes the
one's carrying a weapon will "cock" the gun several times
before actually firing a shot!!!!

The coffee drinking thing gets to me too. So does pouring tea or coffee. It’s typically just a quarter cup pour! šŸ˜– That annoys the hell out of me.

The other thing is when they’re trying to rush out the door and don’t eat the breakfast that has been made, or maybe just take one bite of toast or something. I don’t know any parent or spouse who wouldn’t be really pissed off if that actually happened!
