It wandered up to Ron and me when we were in the back garden!! A ferret! It’s super friendly, immediately wanted to snuggle into my neck as soon as I picked it up!

I have it in the dog crate right now, with water and a bit of boiled chicken and scrambled egg, and a nice soft blanket to snuggle into. It immediately fell asleep poor thing. Who knows how long it’s been wandering.

They are a domesticated species, derived from
Polecats and the like, and won’t survive in the wild.

I’ve posted to my neighborhood Facebook page and messaged the local humane shelter in case anyone reported it missing. It will overnight with me, then I’m taking it to Paige’s.

They are often microchipped and she has a reader, so that will be the first step. She’ll foster it (she has all the right equipment) for a few days, see if anyone comes forward. Then she’ll network it into rescue and find it a ferret friendly home.

She also told me that they’re an often-dumped animal once the owner realizes that they require work to keep. Sadly most don’t survive. I’m glad this one found its way to us!

I think animals know when we will help them.
