What did you learn by rote at school

We learned the times tables "Parrot Fashion". Every morning 2 times up to 12 times. Back to front, front to back and then the teacher would call out 5x10, 12x6, 8x7, and each child had to fire back the answer. I loved it and that has remained with me all these years, my boys used to say, "How can you remember that so fast", I said we had the best teacher, the same with spelling, had to learn very fast.

I had to stay late after senior chemistry class to write this 1000 times on the blackboard before leaving.
Fortunately he got tired of me being there long before that and let me move on. However I didn't do that again.
"I will absolutely, positively, never, in the chemistry laboratory, squirt my water bottle at the other students or the teacher."

Multiplication tables..

I remember the repetition of the 'times-table' in junior school - I still use mental arithmetic and calculations in work each day.
The table you posted was(/is) similar to that which I have on the back of my (olde) exercise books.

Still can't get my head 'round this metric stuff - Feet & inches, Stones, Ounces & pounds and good old LSD '
It makes for great 'Grandad education' lessons when the Grandkids say they're bored/nothing to do . :)

Rote learning I use often: days of the week, months, math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), weights and measures, etc. Also lots of songs and ditties that still drift through my mind now and then.

I learned metric weights and measures, but have forgotten most. Some industries use metric measurements, but they're rarely seen in everyday US life. The apparel industry, my career field, almost exclusively specifies in ounces, pounds, dozens, grosses, yards, inches and bizarrely, lignes (button sizes based on a weird archaic French adaptation of the metric system).

prepositions - about, above, across, against, among, around, but, by, down, during, except, for, from... maybe the only time this would be useful is if i am a contestant on Jeopardy.
