1968 Planet of the Apes "end scene"

I liked the early original films and even the tv series. However once it went cgi I was done.
The first cgi was a clever back story that described how the Planet of the Apes began. I was pumped for what followed, which was lacking.

Brilliant thought provoking film - but alas, the warning in the meaning " a powergul allegory for humanity's self-destructive tensencies, questioning our intelligence, failings
and tendedencies to treat others with distain through the themes of racism, xenophobia, social hierarchy and the political
greed"
  • It's commentary on human nature is still - sadly - relevant today

That's what made the story so good back in the sixties. Here's this new civilization with these nutty rituals, beliefs, conspiracies, and hierarchy of power determined to control and hide truth. At some point in the movie, you begin to realize they are no different than humans, but they have gained prominence by no more than quirks of evolution. And with that, we stop seeing them as the enemy, but just a reflection of our own flawed civilization.

There's probably nothing new in this as far as film making, because versions of the premise have been done so many times, but in 1968 it was ground breaking. Well it seemed like that to me, but then I'd only been watching movies for less than 20 years.

I remember that scene. I saw the movie in the theater during it's first release and was amazed by it. I was 8 when I saw it and it was one of the first times I'd been able to go to a movie with a friend without my parents being with us. I remember getting a box of cough drops for a snack because they were cheaper than any of the candy.
