What Song Do You Lose Yourself In, Everytime it Comes On?

This song makes me pull out the old photos of my sons when young - everytime
You never hear this much on air but it's always in my heart.

SOUL OF MY SOUL WITH LYRICS BY MICHAEL BOLTON

Anyone remember this one? I found it a few years ago and it reminds me of a young lady I almost married. The song is way before my time, but the song is very reminiscent for me. Maybe some older posters would remember it. Was it popular?

It came out in 1959. I was only 6 years old, but I remember hearing it on the radio and various tv shows that I would listen to and watch with my grandmother. I know it sounds kind of dorky, but I think songs from the 50's were romantic.

I’ve always found this captivating -- almost mesmerizing for me, especially the guitars. Originally released in 1984 by The Smiths, sung by Morrissey, but this version is performed live by The Smiths’ guitarist, Johnny Marr.

How Soon Is Now:

You got me with this (or almost any Smiths song) and Boston's More Than a Feeling. Both are great songs that take me to another place and time.

So, I'll submit these two.

I read a short bio about the singer. His genre is Rock-A-Billy. That’s new to me. He has anothe pretty good ballad titled “What In the World’s Come Over You.” You’re right that a lot of the songs in the 50’s were ballads. I think because it was the Doo Wop era and the street corner singers sang a lot of ballads.

Back in the day, when this song came on the radio in my car in the 90s, it always sent a slight shiver down my spine -- perhaps partly because of how the instruments sounded through my car’s very clear & bright sound system, as much as the actual lyrics. I always turned the volume up when it came on.

The lyric So if I can shoot rabbits, then I can shoot fascists is said to have come from a Welsh miner who went to fight in someone else’s war. And the line If you tolerate this your children will be next was taken from a propaganda poster of that time.

Who else is familiar with this song and the period in Spanish history it refers to?

Another one that always pulled me in. In a way, it always seemed slightly haunting to me, yet there always seemed to be something beautiful about it, too. A lonely idealism, perhaps.

A song by the same band as the one above. Give me songs with atmosphere and a great guitar tone any day.

This pulls me in every time. Powerful and fragile at the same time, and seems to stop time for a few minutes.

This one from the same band, but with a completely different feel. The lyrics might not be to everyone’s taste, but where lyrics of childhood are mentioned, it’s fine by me. A reflection of the singer's own childhood.
