I'm Starting To Get Hunched Over. ChiroDoc Help!!

For the past few weeks, I've noticed a tendency to lean forward, even when I'm showering and walking. I make a concerted effort to straighten up, but I noticed, especially when walking that doing so feels uncomfortable. I don't know if it's happening because I wind up "planking" sometimes when I'm sleeping and it puts a strain on my back. @ChiroDoc is there an exercise or anything else you can recommend to counteract this? I don't want to wind up being a hunched over old lady. šŸ˜’ I must mention that I'm being treated for osteopenia, but my last bone density test, less than a year ago, showed an improvement and nothing remarkable.

Miss Diva-- P.M. sent.

But generally speaking a hunched or lean forward posture --outside of a vertebral compression fracture-- is caused from either the thoracic (upper back) or the lumbar (lower back).

Yours sounds more lower back, which may be due to a strain or a vertebral malposition.
Either way a good Chiropractor should be able to relieve that condition, and get you standing straighter. Yours is likely a mechanical problem which requires a mechanical solution.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain possible causes and solutions Doc ā£ļø I will try your suggestions and see if that helps. I'll also keep you posted about the outcome.

My stepmother developed hunched(lumber section) in her 40s and my sister(half sister) developed in her late 60s, same area, lumber section. She is 10 years younger than me and we are very close, a very strong sister-to-sister bond. Both are 'lower back,' hunched lower back.

My stepmother(deceased) seems not much concerned about, but my sister, ... she does concerned 'How to strainghted up'), but gradually she accepts it. She also has back problem which can be alleviated with a right medication.

I'm taking care not to slip into the planking position when I sleep and the condition seems somewhat improved. Still seriously considering seeing the recommended chiropractor though. @Pepper will you consult a chiropractor too at some point?

Uh oh. I'm starting to lean as well. I don't loosen up until after morning walk, coffee and doing some morning chores and stretch.

I've also found besides hanging on a pull up bar even if feet touch ground helps and I can also take a broom stick and put it over your head as a high as possible can stretch things.

I've found with back on ground bringing knee twards chest helps flattening the back/spine the best. (knees want to drift out and must focus keeping over the center of body. Probably some hip flexibility issues as well)

In the past years, I went to Chiropractor two occassions. One for minor neck and shoulder pain. After twice per week for about three month, the pain was completely gone.

However, on my back and Scoliosis, it was not permanent solution.
After twice weekly session for about six month, my BCBS informed me not pay the future session. My 'limit' to Chiropractor-session was exhausted. Medicare does not pay for Chiropractor, btw.

After stop going to Chiropractor, my Scoliosis and back pain is back to the original condition although during twice weekly session, the pain seemed to be dissipated. Actually, my Scoliosis and back pain was not permanent solution.

I've been taking medications to alleviate the pain which is more manageable solution.

Good for you for doing those stretches W.I.T. If I get down on the floor, I won't be able to get up!
