An active shooter has left 'multiple casualties' at Brown University campus as students were urged to 'run, hide and fight.'

The Ivy League campus in Providence, Rhode Island has been shutdown following reports of a shooting tonight, Saturday evening.

The terrifying incident unfolded near the Barus and Holley Engineering building, according to an alert sent out by the university at 4:22pm local time.


In an update from the university at 5:11pm, officials said that a suspect was not in custody and police are continuing to search for the shooter. Officials previously reported that a suspect was in custody earlier in the evening.

Conflicting reports from the chaotic scene also claimed a secondary shooting occurred blocks away from the campus around an hour after the initial shooting. Brown University said in an update that those reports were 'unfounded.'

Much about the shooting remains unclear, with authorities so far having released no information on the nature of the attack or the number of victims.

The Sun Chronicle reported that SWAT police were hunting a suspect and that there were 'multiple' victims.

A heavy law enforcement response descended on the campus, and the Trump administration said FBI and ATF agents were on the scene.

The Brown campus area is known as a quiet, safe community, and hoped such a tragedy would 'never come' to those affected.

Hard to tell if this was targeted ie an individual because like many murderers insulted or have a beef with the victim they don't give 2 hoots about collateral damage.

But this wasn't a street hit which should make it easier which there's some other motivation. Just by coincidence they have the attack in Australia, plots and threats against Christmas markets in Germany and the beginning of the Jewish holiday.

Apparently they caught the suspect this morning. Something about the gun they found indicates that's probably the murderer.

Another sad shooting at Brown University. I don't know why people do these horrible crimes. It happens too often. I send my condolences to all the victims and the relatives of the ones who died.

they might be.. but like in London where we have more cameras than anywhere in the world spying on people's every move... very often these cameras are discovered to be not working...

There will likely be dozens of stories coming. But this is a rich university so I would guess they have top of the line equipment, much of it indoors, and a high tech monitoring office.
 
The classroom was used by a Dr Rachael Friedberg who was teaching economics and advised the Israeli Knesset in the past.

CNN obtained an interview with teaching assistant Joseph Oduru who was leading the review. About 20 students hid with him behind front desk. Don't have a link, watching on X.

Probably not because she was not in the classroom at the time. Could be a coincidence but this isn't just a Jewish professor but someone who worked for the Israeli government.

Coincidence in lieu of current events over the last few days?
