Rev. Jesse Jackson Dead at 84

Rev. Jackson did become much calmer over the years and became more if a moderate. I think he saw life from both sides, like Rev. King did also. In his early years, he saw life from only one side, but as he grew, so did his heart and character.

One memorable saying I heard him say was, ā€œChildren need your presence more than your presents.ā€ And, ā€œNever look down on anybody unless you're helping him up.ā€ He often appeared on talk shows, like ā€œLarry King Live.ā€

Just imagine, a life of activism! Hard work during so many hard times, yet he never wavered. From USA Today:

"The Rev. Jesse Jackson, a towering civil rights icon who battled alongside Martin Luther King Jr., negotiated global hostage releases, and shamed corporations for their lack of corporate diversity and failure to support voting rights, has died. "

"Jackson was hospitalized on Nov. 12 following a lengthy fight with progressive supranuclear palsy, a condition similar to Parkinson's disease. He was released from the hospital later that month. Jackson was a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, a Democratic presidential candidate and one of the world's best-known Black activists."

You did all you could on this earthly plain. Rest peacefully in Paradise Reverend Jackson.

Beautifully said, Diva and USA Today.

Rev. Jackson was a giant among men. May all who loved, admired and/or respected him be comforted by the changes he helped bring about, and continue his work. There's more to be done. Much more.

He was such a force in the Equal Rights movement. He had his slip-ups but he owned up to them. He will be admired in our memories for years to come.

As an aside... I was staying in a hotel in San Francisco in the 90's on business. He was very well-known at the time due his Presidential run. I was going up the escalator and Jesse Jackson was coming down the other side with his entourage. I just remember what a handsome, imposing man he was. He had an aura about him that filled the room. I was awed, and I'll never forget it.

RIP Reverend Jackson.
