2026 Edition: How's Your Day(s)? What Did You Do? Go Anywhere?

@Ruthanne Does your area...city, county...have a Council on Aging or something similar? The name of the organization varies from place to place. Contact them and explain your predicament. Often they can get you moved up on the waiting list, depending on your circumstances.

When my brother had to have a place with just a week's notice, his local council got him moved to the top of a very long list. He was in his new apartment in a few days.

@OneEyedDiva I call "the creeps" Horizontal Surface Disease. If it's a flat surface with space available...it gets covered up with whatever is in my hand ;). And if what I put in that space is flat, chances are good that something will get put on top of that, too!

It's actually warm here this morning. Not warm like spring or summer, but32F. That's a whole lot warmer than it's been for more than a week. I'll take it! And it's sunny, too. We're going to have a heat wave this afternoon. The temp is expected to get to 46F. Woohoo.

I don't have a plan for today. I'll have to think on it.

GG...you describe perfectly how it happens! I love your term for things....Horizontal Surface Disease (HSD)!:ROFLMAO: Good advice you gave @Ruthanne. I hope it works for her too. God knows how to make us appreciate things, right. After being in 6 degree weather, we sure appreciate 32 degrees!

Since I was so lazy yesterday, today I got busy:
~ Updated our budget spreadsheets
~ Refilled my pill cases
~ Made peppermint gelee for my back when I shower & finished the body wash making process

~Loaded and ran the dishwasher then washed Deja’s bowls
~Sorted laundry
~I also did a bunch of small, yet essential tasks that help keep the household running efficiently

Since our sleet started last Saturday and our ice is finally melting, I made it to the gym, the pet store and the grocery store. It's ice and slush out there, but I followed the tracks made by previous vehicles. We've had snow in the past and it has melted quickly, but I've never seen this much ice and had no idea how long it would take it to melt, even with temps above freezing and sunny skies.

Today
~Put away the rest of my Costco haul and Amazon orders.
~I did more of those small, essential chores.

~Dry cleaned a few garments using the Dryel system.
~Made quick chili using shredded Costco rotisserie chicken since I'm out of turkey burgers (which I thaw and chop up).

~Thoroughly cleaned the bathroom plus finally cleaned and put back the items I took off the shelf when the bathroom ceiling was being repaired a couple of weeks ago.
~Did some quick cleaning in the living room. How come I only see how much cleaning needs to be done when company is coming?!

My future DIL came by with my son, but turns out she didn't even sit down. They still had more errands to run before the wedding tomorrow night and they had to go clean the reception hall.

~And yaaay....I found a pretty wedding congratulations card! Wasn't sure I had one. I have bought some beautiful cards from Dollar Tree. I keep them on hand for special occasions and expressions of condolence.

~I put together a small cosmetic kit of essentials especially for my evening bags. I have a glittery silver evening bag that cannot fit my phone nor the kit, so I'll be donating that.
~ Did a a load of laundry using my mini machines.
~I made Stove Top stuffing, something I haven’t had in decades and iced tea. I had that with a piece of chicken, cabbage (both previously frozen) and cranberry sauce.

I didn't go anywhere because it's too cold 🥶 I've been watching Netflix and prime. I'm not sure what I will have for dinner. I got into some chocolates yesterday. I love chocolate 🍫
Just waiting for my neighbor to come home and harass me. I don't know what is wrong with her but something is.

I'm planning on moving from here so there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I'll be put on a waiting list for the senior housing. I'll be applying there sometime soon.

Saving $250 per ticket on seeing Si Cranstoun tickets is a great deal. I admit, I never heard of him before.

It's a travesty that Si Cranstoun is still playing local gigs. The first comment on his YouTube video sums it up precisely:

"This cat is a Superstar! Sing, composes, dances all brilliantly! No one can touch him today, but has not gotten the break!"

Si??? You mean Si from the Dualers? I remember them, they used to busk around Romford, Croydon etc. Their father, Bill, was a Jamaican music promoter (Savoy Sound Systems). I believe their mother was from Sierra Leone and they grew up in South London.

Tyber and the Dualers new line-up

and here's Si as a solo in 2019

I hope Si is doing well and you and Mrs HC have a wonderful time. I have good memories of seeing them during their busking days. :)

I wound up doing laundry in the apartment today. Since I wasn't feeling well Thursday and Friday and it rained a couple of days, I didn't go down to the laundry room. Today I did half of what I'd usually wash when I do laundry up here. I'll wash more tomorrow and Monday, God willing. I got a bag of plant food (that actually comes as ice packs in my prescription eye drops shipment) ready to take upstairs to my neighbor. I then took the garbage to the dumpster and went over to Honorary Son #3's studio to sit with him for his broadcast.

@Trish No apology necessary for getting off topic. Some of the best conversations happen when discussions veer off topic. :)

I got busy before sunrise. I did a cursory cleaning of Deja's fountain. I fed her and had to lock her in the bathroom so I could "do" my meds. She jumps on the table and I can't have her doing that when I'm filling my pill cases. I had almost used all in my emergency case, so had three to fill.
I'll do another load or load and a half of laundry in the apartment because we are experiencing a bonafide blizzard outside! I have to mend a slip and sow buttons on a skirt before I wash because they will be part of the load. I also have to load and run the dishwasher because I fell asleep unbeknownst to myself before I got a chance to do it last night.

I finally made my plain loaf of bread today, which I had intended to do over the weekend. It came out good, but when I cut it, it starts to shred and this time I followed the recipe exactly. I spent some time on Ancestry today. My good friend "Tee" whom I call Li'l Sis has been instrumental (pardon the pun) in producing my music videos, building my family tree and helping me understand all of that genealogy stuff. I'm still overwhelmed by it plus haven't been able to find information about my maternal grandfather. :sneaky:

One interesting thing that happened is that a 3rd - 6th cousin on my paternal side messaged me. Ancestry didn't narrow it down, Tee thinks due to the DNA markers, he's likely a 3rd cousin. Doesn't much matter to me. We don't do that 3rd cousin twice removed stuff.... in my family if you're blood, you're blood. Anyway, he's quite a talented singer as evidenced by his YouTube video.

What a great singer he is OneEyedDiva! You have a talented family.

I am so sorry you are going through this Ruthanne. I know what it's like to have a noisy neighbor. Shortly after I moved here almost 55 years ago, there was a nurse who had two small children. She also had friends who had small children. Sometimes the noise they made was unbearable. I reported her to the board, but they did nothing. Someone said I should call the police, but I really didn't want to do that. One night I was sleeping and right up over my bed, it sounded like someone dropped a big box of heavy books hard on the floor. Blam!!

I started looking for another apartment, but the rent was so much more than what we paid for our carrying charges here and I was "Poor Girl" back then. My father suggested I move to a new complex, but it's in an area that even back then, wasn't so good. It's worse now, so glad I don't live there. I decided to tough it out and she finally moved out. I found out years later that she had died at a fairly young age. The neighbors who moved in had two boys around my son's age. You'd think young boys would be noisy, but they hardly made any noise at all and I was so grateful.

Maybe the list will move fast and you'll get in sooner than expected so you can get away from those terrible people!
Thank you for your message Diva. I bet there are lots of people who have experienced noisyness in these apartments everywhere.

I hate to say it but it's gotten worse with some guy neighbor waking everyone up 2:am and then again an hour or so later he makes more noise to wake everyone. He does that by banging pots and pans together . So I have been sleeping on the couch instead. It's insane here.

I haven't applied for an apartment yet. I've been nursing a pinched nerve. Soon I will apply for a senior housing apartment. It will feel so good to move!

Early this morning, I did accounting for my son and me and balanced my checkbooks.

This evening, I attended the performance of my Honorary Son #3's play about Biddy Mason, an incredible woman who was once a slave, walked across country with a caravan under her mean master's grip, got her freedom in California, became quite wealthy and spent most of her fortune helping others. You can read more about her in this thread, my post #15.

Black History Month for 2026

There was a little bit of a scare. The lead actress was a little late because she took the train and HS had to leave the church to pick her up from the station. Earlier, he had picked up the rest of the cast in NYC. It was nice that he mentioned me as being his creative muse before the play started. He had written the Biddy Mason tribute before we met, but consulted with me during revisions and while composing most of the music that was used. The cast got a well deserved standing ovation. Once again HS made me very proud.

I had a lot of catching up to do on Facebook, so I spent some time there this morning. Since I need to catch up here too I'm going to devote more time here as well. I took care of a few business matters online. I had ordered the H & R Block tax program over a month ago; I'll finally download it and at least get started on my taxes today. I also have to give Deja's fountain a thorough cleaning.
