I watched as much of this show as I could. After speaking with other retired cops that also watched it, we agreed that the police did the right thing by waiting until they had a multitude of evidence and not going to the D.A. and asking for a warrant on just here-say information. By collecting material evidence, they pretty well locked up their case and also their suspect.
Without the female coming forward and acting as an undercover agent for the FBI, their case may have died in court. In cases of child pornography, the pornographer can be hard to prove, especially when these weirdos use their own kids as the models in the pictures. It’s also possible for them to get a free pass if they are able to prove mental illness and be sentenced to time in a psychiatric hospital. These cases have to be handled with what is called “special handling.”
I am guessing that the judge used sentencing guidelines when he sentenced Mr. Fogle because with the number of charges he had against him, he should have received more time. He did get more time than the guideline, but there were 14 victims and who knows how many acts he secretly taped on each girl, which each act taped could have been counted as a count, all in all, I think he got off cheap.
The mother of one of the girls that enabled Jared to tape her daughter pleasure herself and other sex acts also received 33 years, which was more time than Mr. Fogle received. These kids are now damaged goods. Many of these kids will need therapy for many years. It’s a real shame what he dud to these children.
