“Just Married” on Car

Seeing “Just Married” signs or fancy decorations on a car used to be quite common, especially on weekends. I’d actually forgotten about these signs until the other day. Sure enough I saw one, digitally produced on clear plastic, two days later.

Is this returning or was it ever gone?

Newspaper announcements of an engagement or marriage are a thing of the past too.

Maybe this is all regional.

This thread reminded me ofours..
when we stopped for gas starting on our honeymoon
And "in those days"
A guy..filled your gas tank
Afterwards..he said "Congratulations"
We wondered how he knew
because we didn't have any decorations on the car
When we stopped for gas next
You pulled down the license to fill the tank
There we saw the Just Married sign😉

I don’t see many old fashioned wedding celebrations in my area.

IMO the old fashioned small town style weddings went the way of the dodo bird thanks to birth control pills and the hippie generation.

The only ones that I’m aware of are more like big ticket corporate mergers than simple expressions of love.

A just divorced sign in a car that I once saw made me smile.

Just adding to another thread on being "Just Married " Did your husband carry you over the threshold when you were first moving into a new place.???? Mine did and I got such a shock because I didn't think it was done any more, only in movies.
Yes, I did carry Mrs.L over the threshold. That was 51 years ago. I'm not sure my old back and knees are up to it now.

“Just Married” on Car - funny place to get married I would have thought?

I did see a couple getting married ON a car once. It was at a drive-in wedding chapel in...where else...Las Vegas.

They were sitting on the back of a convertible. Bride was wearing a gold bikini top, daisy-dukes, and a huge elaborate wedding veil. Groom had on jeans and a black t-shirt with the naughtiest of naughty words on the back.

Anti-natalist sentiments run high in many places, probably more in dense urban settings and most in gentrified communities.

So a lot of people live a much more dronelike existence. Marriage may be viewed with suspicion and children as something to shy away from.

We had our reception in a mansion's.lounge
When it was time to.leave..

He swept me up to carry me up the 'winding staircase
It was something..like out of Gone with the Wind

On the way to my first wedding....I got a speeding ticket from a Toronto Police officer, for driving 12 miles an hour over the 30 mph limit. I was wearing a tuxedo, and the car was decorated with dozens of those stupid Kleenex pompons. What really pizzed me off was that the scotch tape used to attach the pompoms tore the top layer off of my custom black lacquor paint job on the 55 Chevy Belair 2 door hard top. That marriage was not a good idea. JIM.

I have not read a newspaper in years.
