On Lake Superior.

I grew up and lived in the snow effect belt of Lake Erie during this time, so this tragedy still puts a lump in my throat.

This was the winter our road was snowed/blown shut and we had to be plowed out by the National Guard. The family back hoe was at our house and I was barely able to keep the drive open until my son’s father got home from leaving work early. My son was a responsible two year old. He and the dog stood mesmerized in the living room window, watching me as I plowed. The promise of anything he wanted at McDonalds bought me a lot in those days😇😇

Prayers to all of the affected families— I am sure 50 years still seems like “only yesterday” 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Ah yes... I thought about this a few days ago as I do every year. It's one of those things that's simply never forgotten. There's one line in Lightfoot's song that has always been so haunting to me... "fellas, it's been good to know ya." 🥺 A listener at that point can almost feel the resolve... but also the terror.

I was in Cleveland that night visiting relatives. When we heard the news, my uncle became upset because he knew a fellow that used to live near them and he worked on that ship at times, but it was a few days later that he found out he was on the ship when it went down.

We used to live on the shores of Lake Superior, and I bought a beautiful four-panel painting of the underwater wreck. I just tried to take a photo of it to share, but there is a sunny window right behind me as I try to take it, so that will have to wait until later. And I haven't been able to find an image of this same painting online.

It would have been amazing to actually see her in real life.
