There was a TV program about those massive pumpkins. There aren't something you find in a regular pumpkin patch. They stick IV needles in them and force feed them a concoction of nutrients.

Like any squash,I`m sure after a certain point it becomes very "leathery",for lack of a better word. And I think there is a word for it,but my mind is blank lol.

That pic in the OP nearly looks like the size of an elephant to me (without the legs and head) so I looked it up.
Not even close...but super impressive for a pumpkin! The OP pumpkin weighs 1,500 lbs

African Bush elephants weigh 13,000 lbs

African Forest weigh 6,000 lbs
