Called Ozaki the beef is from a small farm in Japan and the taste is due to the care taken to raise the cattle. The beef comes from a herd of 1,600 black cattle raised in Miaazaki prefecture the region known for its quality of beef. The cattle are fed a blend of 13 types of grain developed over 20 years. The cattle are raised for 28 months before they go to slaughter. At a restaurant in NY the beef sells for $45 per ounce but do not worry you can order another beef A5 wagyu for a mere $30 per ounce.

Don't really care for Japanese beef. Very mild - beef for people who don't eat a lot of beef. It's okay, but my heart belongs to grain-finished Prime Plus quality Black Angus. Just salt it well in advance of cooking, please!

But I admit, I have had a fair amount of Wagyu and Kobe/Angus blends, but not the real A5. There are only 5 restaurants in the US who are actually licensed to serve it.

There were quite a number of Kobe Beef steak houses on Okinawa when I was stationed there in the early 1970's. The beef was delicious and not unreasonably priced at that time.

The Showmanship during the meal preparation was pretty spectacular.

I think I will keep my cash in my pocket and continue to buy my grass fed angus.
