1965 Tokyo in 60fps HD / Japan in the 1960s

I actually visited Tokyo in 1965 thanks to the Navy. The base arranged a quided tour. Here's me at the top of Tokyo tower. It was so hazy we couldn't see much. We also visited the Olympic stadium. Had lunch sitting on the floor with a little grill in front of us cooking slivers of beef. A fun day.

Squared away 3rd class, Don. Must have been cold that day. I never wore my peacoat in Tokyo.

I was there that year and subsequent years also. Never went up in the tower. Remember the signs in front of bars that said "welcome American war heros" ? We always laughed at those.

You must mean the bars in Yokosuka. They'd put up anything to get you inside.

looking at these guys young, fit and strong, and could have been taken yesterday ( different style of uniform aside)....way back before i was born, makes me think of something someone said on the Los Angeles post..in that, colour makes it all more recent to us..that seeing it in colour makes us think just how things and people have barely changed....they're not the dark ages that we think of in our memories when we look t our parents and grandparents today who may have been one of these guys or one like them...

I have several photos of my ex husband in his naval uniform back in the 70's.. 30 years after these were taken, and there's not a big difference in them despite even being in different countries and different Navies ..... and 50 years later, he too is older, and now sadly ill, and quoting his words '' getting old is a B**ch''

I took over 300 photos on my tour of the far east. When I look through them I think about my shipmates and wonder how life has treated them.

I'm sure...to have lived, worked, played and fought amongst other men, then they must became a pseudo family, so it's very natural to wonder what became of them
