2 Lotto winners unable to collect prize

Because the OLG expects the winner should know where they purchased the ticket.

I won a little over 2 grand a while back and one of the first questions they asked me is "Where did you purchase the ticket" along with other security questions to confirm I was the rightful owner.
I get what you're saying, I just don't understand ....it's like a theft is assumed unless the purchaser can prove otherwise. To me, that's kind of nuts. I could give a list of possibilities, like "Well, it was either the Valero station, the Shell, or Sam's Liquor, but I'm pretty sure I bought a few at the Vape Shop, too."

I'm just saying, give it a week or 2 for someone to contest it, then give the winner their prize if no one comes forward. That makes more sense to me.

Makes sense to me too (y)

It matters because the place that sold the ticket gets a cash prize, too.

Calif lottery ticket bar codes include the location of where the ticket was sold. The state does that record-keeping, not the ticket-buyer.
We have that too. I believe that’s a given.

If they know where a ticket was sold, they can review security footage. That happened once. The ticket was about to expire so the lottery corp reviewed the sales, got the store to pull out the CC receipts and then contacted the winner. She’d lost the ticket and hadn’t thought about it since she bought it. There are lots of folks who lose their tickets and they don’t search for them. The lottery corp thought they were going to make the public happy. Absolutely the opposite. She didn’t need the money.

I think the Ontario system is a waste of time and just keeps lots of lottery folks employed. Teach people to sign their tickets immediately and there’s no problem.
