Thieves pulled off 2 million dollar art heist in Anaheim California in which a couple of 2,000 to 4,000 pound sculptures were taken from a warehouse. Not exactly a stealth cat burglar type theft but they got away with it for now. The artist known for life size/large sculptures

Buyers probably limited for that as well. The thieves probably filling a customer order.

Robert Wittman , an ex FBI agent wrote a book about art theft. Art is easy to steal, but hard to get rid of. There really is no market for obviously stolen art. Thieves use it as a "get out of jail" card. They bargain for reduced or no jail time, for the return of famous stolen art.

I remember reading a book once about an art thief who stole specific paintings "on commission" for extremely wealthy collectors who were willing to have the art in their "private" collections. They didn't want the art for investment purposes or to show off; they just wanted to know they owned it.
