2 pit bulls attack boy and grandmother, police say

If you ask for my 2 cents; I would say that the pit bulls should be destroyed and the owner should be fined at least $5,000 US dollars. None of that silly "slap on the wrist" that happens here in Canada. The pit bulls did the attacking but the owner of them thar doggies is the ultimate cause of it all.

Dogs are dangerous. People think it's cute when their dog escapes from the yard. Or, they let the dog "run free," to everyone's peril.

Pit Bulls should be banned. They aren't all dangerous but the ones who are, are deadly and there's no way to tell which kind you have until it's too late.

People like to say it's not the breed it's bad owners, but when was the last time you heard of an Irish Setter doing this? It's the breed. Men bred pits to fight to the death and somewhere along the line they managed to breed a desire to kill into these dogs.

If someone decides out of hundreds of dog breeds, to choose the one most likely to kill the neighbor's children and that dog gets loose and does something like this report, then I think that owner deserves to go to prison.

There are all sorts of breeds of dogs. Some small, some large. Some gentle and loving, some that would love to tear you apart to pieces. If you want to own a dog, you have a choice. If you want company choose a nice little friendly doggie. However, if you want to make some sort of weird social (opps, I should say anti-social statement), then choose a big, mean, ugly, vicious pitbull. It's your choice but choosing a certain breed of dog says a lot about your own person and your own values and how you look at your fellow man/woman!

I am not a dog owner but if I was to choose a pet from a local animal shelter, I am sure I would choose the nice, cute, little, cuddly white doggie below. You can keep your pit bull.

Absolutely! Bred not only to be powerful but also with the desire to attack. Humans ruined this dog and some others.

This trait is in their DNA now, not simply how they are treated.

I don't believe that part about DNA at all. It's like saying if you had numerous ancestors who were murderers, you'll be one, too, that it's a genetic trait. Nope, I don't believe that.

Those numerous ancestors were not bred to be violent or prone to attack. The dogs are. I feel that's different. When breeders mate strong attack qualities with another with strong attack qualities, that's what you get.

But I see what you mean Janice. Maybe I should go back to school.

Don't you find it an odd coincidence that scuzzballs keep choosing pit bulls to mistreat? Don't these scuzzballs ever mistreat their hound dogs or Golden Retrievers?

I suppose more creeps choosing pitbulls has given pitbulls a bad reputation, and that's probably why they choose that particular breed. Any dog can become mean and vicious if they're trained to, or mistreated.

The difference is, animals act on instinct. People have the ability to choose how they act.
At least, I think they do.
