2 prisoners apparently handcuffed drowned in a transport van in South Caroline flooding from the hurricane rains.

Horrific, deputies said they tried to open the doors to no avail. Had to be rescued themselves from the van roof.

Somebody screwed up, pure and simple. Although a van is heavy it is also larger and temporarily has more air capacity to float. Flash floods are called FLASH floods for a reason. They come in a flash.

After reading the news report, it sounds as if someone had their head up their you know what. If these two inmates were to be transported, why didn’t that take place prior to the heavy rains starting. Even every simpleton knew that the Carolinas were expecting 2+ feet of rain, not to mention floods were also expected for at least a week prior to this all happened.

Very sad.

It seems like we live in a world where common sense has been replaced by procedure manuals.

Waiting a couple of days could have saved two lives, two careers, a vehicle, and the risks associated with a rescue/recovery.

The whole thing is a tragic waste.
