20 inches rain in 24 hours in south Florida/Ft Lauderdale. Severe flooding

Florida always complains they don’t get enough rain. Maybe Ft. Lauderdale feels a bit different about that temporarily.

Problem with south Florida is that is at sea level so large amounts of rain have no where to go and have to pumped else where. Intersections and stretches road flood out as is during severe drenching t storms. A prolonged event it will get worse. They might have had pumping station failures as well.

We lived in a condo a bit southwest of Fort Lauderdale in the early 90's. When it rained, the flooding would be so bad that we would have to park our car outside the gates and wade on foot to our condo. The parking lot was flooded. I can only imagine what it is like now.

These days, clouds carry a lot more water so we are seeing more of these flooding events throughout the country. My brother-in-law lives in Miami and over Christmas we were discussing how long his house would still be habitable. He's hoping it will remain so during his lifetime.
