These photos remind me of the old family owned department stores in the city center when I was a kid. Each store used to attempt to outdo the others for good natured bragging rights.

yes, they still do that in some places here... not as many as it used to be, but still quite a few.. especially the garden centres.. The one I took these photos from they also have an ice rink during the Christmas season, and in summer they have a Miniature railways train... which is very popualr with arents and kids..

In the 70s, I worked in the center building and ate my lunch in this park almost every day. The building is now home to some very spendy apartments.
