Do to the long drive (80 miles each way), and various health issues, Dio and I no longer "officially" volunteered at the roller rink. Our last day was Nov 2nd.
We are still going to the rink (and helping out), but only if we feel like going.....we aren't on the schedule anymore. This means no more driving at night, or in the rain, etc.
Last Sat we went, and I had a blast skating with my friends!!! It was so much more fun than working behind the snack bar and watching everyone else skate!
It did seem strange though. It was the first time in 17 years (at this rink) that Dio was not the deejay. Even though I think he missed it, he still said that he had a good time.
Today, Dio is finally going to have his MOHS surgery.
The doctors who do this surgery are specialist, and there are not many of them. There is one who comes to our area once a month, and travels to two other states, as well!
Due to other medical issues, and really, really bad timing, Dio has been waiting two months for this surgery. In the meantime, the problem has grown bigger and bigger.
Both of us will be very happy when it's over and done!
My Christmas was absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! The electronic picture frame was a huge success!!! Since my Mom doesn't do anything at all in the electronic world, she had never seen or heard of anything like it. As soon as she saw the word "electronic" on the box, I could tell that she lost interest.....until I plugged it it!
The very first picture was of her and her sister when they were about 5-6 years old. At first, she was surprised that I had found the old picture and she liked the the frame. Then, she got really surprised when the picture changed to one of her grandmother!!!! She hadn't understood that there was more than one picture! She was amazed when I told her that there were over 500 pictures in the frame!!
She sat there "oooooing and aaaaahing" as each picture changed, reminiscing about people she knew, things she did, and places that she (and my Dad) went. She also liked the fact that all she needed to do was plug it in and it starts by itself!
2024 is winding down. This has been a good place for me to talk about the ups and downs of my year, and I'm happy to say that it's ending on a good note.
After we got home from town today, Dio and I sat out in the barn. We kept warm with his turban heater (175,000 BTUs), drank Strawberry Lemonade Beer, and toasted the New Year! For me, it was one of the best New Years Eve celebrations that I've ever had!
So now, I will end posting here. Tomorrow I will start a new diary thread for 2025. Hopefully, it will be a good one for us, and all of my SF friends!
