2025- notable events in my life

It's going to be a really busy week for me.....

Without going into details, Dio's procedure went well today. He'll just need a few days to take it easy and heal up.

Tomorrow, I go to a new dentist. I want a second opinion on my problem. If I like this guy, Dio and I will both switch over to him.

Wednesday, Mom is having a repair person come to the house to find out why her landline is dead....AGAIN!!!

Thursday, I go to my old dentist to get my crown.

Friday, back to Mom's house to pay her bills, etc.

I'm tired just thinking about it all!! I don't know how much time I'll have online, but I'll check in when I can!

We had quite an adventure last Monday.....

First of all, our new car was ready to be picked up!! The dealer was about an hour away, and just before we left the house the weather radar said that there was a light rain that we would be driving out of.

Well, it POURED!!!!. It came down by the bucket full! I was soaked, just leaving the house. There was flash flooding and the major roads were under water in more places than I could count! We ended up getting over 3 inches of rain in less than an hour!

Good thing we left early! It was a slow drive for the first half of the trip, then we drove out of the rain. We got to the dealer on time, and the new car was ready and waiting for us. The people at this dealership were so easy to work with, and in about an hour we were on our way home in our new car! Of course, the rain started up again as we got closer to our house.

As soon as we got it parked in the barn, Dio cleaned it up.....and that's where it stayed for 4 days, when the rain finally stopped!

Even though I was reluctant to get rid of our old car, surprisingly, I really like the new one. It's so much like our old one that there is not a huge adjustment on my part. We are both very happy with it!

Oh no, it always rains when you are busy doing something! What kind of car did you get? I was always so sad when I got a new car because I hated to get rid of the old one. I get attached to them (or I used to, no car now).
Our old car was a 2017 Chevrolet Cruz. It was very reliable, and I thought that I'd miss it, but......

The new car is a 2025 Nissan Sentra. It is the first time that we haven't had a Chevy car in over 50 years! The Sentra looks a lot like the Cruz, but it's soooo much better! I'm loving it!

Not a normal morning for me, today. My Mom called.......
She fell out of bed and hit her head on her nightstand. She said that she couldn't stop the bleeding, and didn't know how bad it was.

By the time I got there, most of the bleeding had slowed down. I had to clean her hair and head before I could see the damage. The gash is about an inch long, but most of it was not very deep. One spot, in the middle, looked a bit worse and that was were most of the blood was coming from.

I cleaned her wound with water, and let it air dry, just giving a light dab at the blood, as needed. Next, I cleaned the blood from her PJs and blanket. I used almost a full bottle of hydrogen peroxide, there was so much blood everywhere!

She also dripped blood onto her carpeting from the bedroom, all the way down the hallway, through the living room and into the kitchen. She will clean the carpeting herself, the best she can.

By this time, her wound was drying up, so I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide. I told her not touch so that it can make a scab.

After that, Dio and I started to move her nightstand farther away from the bed.....but she sure didn't want that!!!!! Right about then is when she decided that I had done enough, and she kicked me out! LOL

Things could have been much worse, and I'm just happy that she's OK!

There is a plant that grows wild everywhere around where I live, called Perilla Mint. As it turns out, I'm VERY allergic to it. Over the years, Dio has eradicated most of it, but since it's everywhere, it always comes back. I don't really have a problem with it since I know to avoid it as much as possible.

Last Thursday, Dio was mowing, and I didn't know that he was cutting down a big patch of Perilla Mint, and I walked right through the stream of clippings as the mower threw them into the air.

So, I'm a real mess right now. My eyes are swollen almost all the way closed. I just got back from seeing my APN, and getting some steroids. I won't be online much, until this clears up. 🙁

It's been a week from hell. I'm so far behind on posting that I'm not even sure where to start!

Of course, one of the reasons why I'm behind is also part of my "hell week".....my WiFi has been out!!!!

So, my tale of woe starts a week ago Thursday, when I was exposed to chopped and atomized Perilla Mint. (previous post on this thread). I am still taking Benadryl, and I have one more steroid to go. Recovery has been slow, and I have new outbreaks every day. The good news is that each outbreak is less severe than the previous one. Also, the swelling in my face has a noticeable improvement this morning. This has been miserable! I sure hope that I've learned my lesson, this time!!!!!

Last Wednesday, I had 4 different workers coming to my Mom's house, to do various things. What a fiasco that turned out to be! I had it all planned out to smoothly get everything done. Well, we all know that plans have a mind of their own, and rarely ever cooperate!

The first guy there was Mom's handyman. Nice guy, seems to know his stuff, and lives up the road from her. He treats her well and always gives her a fair price. There are a lot of jobs for him, and we were able to write a list, and form a plan of action. I sure am grateful to have him around!

Next came the guy who was going to pressure wash the house. Unfortunately, he found a problem with my Mom's water. I didn't understand any of it. Luckily, the handyman was still there and he stepped in to see what was going on. He even called the water dept for me! Long story, short: the pressure washing is on hold until I can get a plumber out to fix the problem.

While all of this was going on, the garage door guy came. I didn't know anything about this guy, and I was apprehensive about him. Turns out he was great! All I wanted was a maintenance check, greasing/oiling whatever needed it, etc. He came in, did the work, said everything was in very good shape, and changed me.....$40 less than what he quoted over the phone!!!!

By now, it was 11am, and three of the four workers had been there and gone. All that was left was the gutter guy. I called him to see what time he was coming out. He said that he just had to finish up the job he was on, and my Mom's house was next. Okaaaaaaay....five hours later he still hadn't shown up!!!!! I tried calling him a couple of times, but my calls went straight to voice mail. I am guess he didn't want to talk to me. On my last call, I left a message saying that I was cancelling for that day.

I really wanted to get home and I left within a few minutes. But, I wasn't going to get home any time soon. There was a horrendous accident that had the road closed. I ended up sitting, going nowhere, for quite a while. (the only other road is about 45 minutes out of the way).

Eventually, I got home......and the WiFi was out! It stayed out for over 3 days! All I can say is that I'm glad it's over! I'm happy to be back with my SF friends!!

Hugs to everyone!

Tomorrow, the plumber is coming out to my Mom's house. I'll be there all day. I'm glad to get it done and over with, so I can move on to other things. As far as the cost for the plumber, it's going to be MUCH cheaper than what I'm paying the handyman to rebuild the retaining wall and fix her yard. I've already given him a deposit of several thousand dollars.....and that's just for the materials! He is starting that job tomorrow, too.

Three sides of her yard has a wooden retaining wall. Although all of the wood is rotten and needing to be replaced, he is only doing the part that has actually collapsed. It's just too expensive to do all of it right now....especially since I don't know how much longer she will be able to live there!

I didn't go skating today because of the possibility of heavy rain along the way. We didn't get more than a few dribbles here, but it looks like the rink may have gotten hit pretty hard.

So what did I do? Well, Dio had a project to do today and I assisted.....

There is a great big dead tree in the cow field, just to the other side of our fence. Over the last few years, the tree has slowly been getting smaller as it drops it's branches. It hasn't been much of a problem until a few days ago when a huge piece dropped off right onto our walking trail! It figures, right?!! 🙄

Right after breakfast, while it was still cool out (and no rain, yet!), Dio took out the tractor. Since he doesn't use it very often, it is stored in the barn, tucked out of the way. It's somewhat of a project to get it in and out of it's spot.

Anyway, he took the tractor down past the pond, and over to the fence and broken tree. He tied straps to the broken tree pc and to the tractor, and dragged the tree pc out of all of the bushes and bramble that it had tangled itself into on it's way down. Now that it was fully on the ground, he was able to use the tractor to push that huge dead pc of tree into the woods.

Goober supervised the entire procedure. He even verified that the tree was correctly positioned in the woods.

We were able to get the tractor cleaned up and tucked back into it's place in the barn just as the first few drops of rain started to come down!

It was a big job, and I'm glad it's done!

It's been a really bad day, with my Mom. First, she fell in the parking lot at her doctor's appointment. Nothing is broken, not even her glasses. But she did scrape her leg and nose. Also, she gave herself quite a goose egg on her forehead! All n all, she's OK. But still.....!!!

Then, back at her house, some guy was playing fetch with his dog....in my Mom's yard!!!!

After that, we spent 2-1/2 hours trying to get her medicines and vitamins situated, but she just couldn't understand what she was to take, or when. She was mostly confused because some of her pills are kept in the bathroom, some in the kitchen cabinet, and some on the kitchen table! 😳

Once we got all of her pills straightened out, I went to put them in one of those seven day pill caddy thingys. Guess what? The compartments for the last 2 days were still full! She forgot to take them.😒

I'm not looking forward to today. 😥

I slept well enough last night, could have been better, but it was OK. Besides today's appointment, my Mom has me really upset....so I have both things working against me.

I keep telling myself "stress is the enemy!"

Well, in a few hours, at least part of it will be over. I hope everyone's day will be better than mine.

I didn't think I'd be here today, but everything went smoothly in town today.....so here I am!

First was Dio's Eye Doctor's appointment. He is doing so well that he still doesn't need to get the shot in his eye! Not only that, but he usually has to go back every 3 months, but not this time. His next appointment is in July...8 months away!!! Yippy!!!!!

After his appointment, we ran a few quick errands, then went to the Health Department for our flu shots. When we got there, the building looked abandoned, and we thought the worst. Luckily, there was a sign on the door saying that they had moved and it gave the new address. I wasn't really familiar with the street that they were on, but I was fairly sure that it was close by. We went looking for the new building, and sure enough....it was very close by. Unfortunately, it was closed for Veteran's Day, but now we know where it is, and it's very easy to get to! So still no flu shot!

There was nothing left on our list of stops except the little grocery store, and pizza. We were in and out of the store in no time, I even got a few extra things that I knew were on my Wal-Mart list, but this store had them marked down.

The store and the pizza place share a parking lot, so we walked over. We are in there every Tue, and have gotten to know the Manager. As we walked in, she was super hassled with a HUGE order from the person ahead of us. As soon as she saw us, she handed us our usual pizza and told us to just take it...it was on her!!!! That's never happened before...so nice of her! And you know what? I've decided that "free" tastes better!!!

In the corner lot, at the end of our road, there is a horse that is always by himself. He's really pretty and I'm always looking at him. Now, there are a lot of horses around where I live, but this one seems special to me. On the way home, Dio pulled over and stopped by this horses gate. I got out and petted him for the first time!!! He was so sweet!!! I think he wanted a treat, but I didn't have anything for him. Next time I'll be sure to have some apple slices with me!! 🐴

It's been a good day!

Sorry I haven't been around much lately.....just a quick pop in now and then. Good intentions, etc......

Anyway, I'm spending more time helping my Mom. She does so well with everyday things, but the world moves too fast for her and she relies on me to take care of anything that isn't routine.

A few days before Thanksgiving, she had a tree fall over in her yard. I've been trying to find someone who is insured and has reasonable prices, to get rid of the tree. Long story here, so I'll skip to the end...I found someone to do it, and he'll start in a few weeks.

That's just an example. Lately it's been one thing after another, and I'm always putting out fires.

When you mentioned that your mother still lives at home, I envisioned in an apartment. Basically, you’re maintaining two houses. That isn’t easy looking after one. You’re a good daughter.

It’s lucky that the tree didn’t land on the house.

The tree just missed what I call "her Out House"....aka a She Shed.

Her actual house is bigger than mine, and it's falling apart. I know that she won't be able to stay there much longer, but I've been saying that for quite a few years, now! Anyway, I'm not looking to fix up her house, I'm just adding bandaids as needed.

My Mom doesn't want to move, so that's her choice. And honestly, I think the reason why she does so well is because of "familiarity". She has lived there since the 1980's. I've seen enough signs of dementia that I think if she moved, she would become confused and lost.

So she stays. But it's getting really hard on me.

Another good thing is the Handyman that I hired. He is a sweet, caring man. It turns out the he lives close enough to be considered a neighbor, and he's willing to pop over any time I call him.

Helping my Mom is not the only thing that has been keeping me from spending time on The SF.....

The owner of the other forum that I belong to, has become a close friend. She had "something" on her leg. It's a very long story, but the short version is that she was bit by a Brown Recluse spider. She was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks, getting IV antibiotics, blood transfusions, and finally, surgery. I've been spending most of my online time talking to her, trying to keep her spirits up, and relaying messages to other forum friends for her.

I actually wondered is she would survive, but, happily, she just got home from the hospital last Tuesday. She sent me some VERY graphic photos of her leg, after surgery. Boy! She sure is a mess! They told her that it will be a minimum of 3 months before she can take a bath or shower!

Amazing what a little tiny spider can do!

Did I mention that the fan on our heat pump failed on Thanksgiving morning? Always on a Holiday, right?!!!

Luckily, Dio is an HVAC guy (amongst other things). He found the problem, ordered the part, and fixed it. So, I was using space heaters and electric blankets for 6 days! It's nice to have heat again! 😉
