2026 - How's the Weather Where You Are

We had a horrible, hot, windy and humid day yesterday, 10th January. The heat reached 43 degrees Celsius (105F). I had to pick up my son from the swimming centre and on the way back my car slowly came to a standstill and stopped near an intersection.
Son got out of the car and started to push it around the corner, another car stopped and he too helped to push it. We were then standing in a Bus Lane which is illegal when another car stopped to help. I was trying to ring the NRMA to come and help but couldn't get through. A police car came around the corner but didn't stop to help.
The second man said there might be trouble with the oil as the light was on. We waited for about 10 minutes, and I turned on the key in the ignition, and it started, much to everyone's surprise. I thanked everyone who helped. There are some good people around. Got home as fast as I could but will take it to a mechanic to test it in the morning. Wouldn't want to get into that situation again.

Last night at 6.45pm, the temperature in my house was 36° the temperature outside was still 41° after getting up into the mid 40s, the only mitigating factor was that the humidity was below 20% (hot dry air from the interior) which made it much more bearable.

Once the sun went down I threw open every door and window to cool the house down.

The Southerly Buster arrived in Wollongong during the night by which time I was asleep. It usually drops the temperature by 10 to 15° with some relatively strong winds and sometimes dry lightning (lot of energy in the atmosphere) but last night I didn't hear it at all.

This morning when I went out for my walk it was 19° but even during the middle of the day it never got above the low 20s and unlike the last four days is overcast.

The southerly winds also brought the smoke up from the Victorian bushfires because there was a definite smell of smoke in the air. I am hoping for a bit of much needed rain it is as dry as after the heat

Seems cooler than yesterday, but still above freezing with intermittent clouds and sun. Some areas here are under a high wind warning starting this evening. Looks like a bad day this Thursday, 3 to 4 inches of snow predicted. I wonder if there will be meal deliveries.
