@stretch5881 that is BRUTAL🥶🥶🥶🥶. I know you are as prepared as you can possibly be, and hopefully that is sufficient. 🙏🙏

The meteorologist in my area are trying their darndest to get things accurate but at the moment that is a very difficult because the American model and the European model of weather software are still pretty far apart.

I fear, however, I am going to be in the ice storm zone. That really worries me in terms of losing power, in terms of having so much ice that I hope the pasture gate still works so I can shut the horses out of the main pasture. A broken leg or a broken hip means certain death.

I would much rather deal with inches upon inches of snow versus half inch of ice. But I think it will take a weather Hail Mary for me to avoid the ice storm.

Our temperatures today are going to be in the low 40° range, with sunshine. Things will start to tank in earnest on Friday.

Extreme cold watch is in effect:

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills of 20 to 40 below zero
possible.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills of 20 to 40 below zero
could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is
exposed to these temperatures.

Oh dear. You have horses to worry about. I hadn’t ever thought of what it’s like to have horses in icy weather. Can you put salt down or does that get in the horses hooves?

I wish you the best!

Thankyou @PeppermintPatty 🤠🤠

I have sand, but it’s such a big area to cover, I don’t have enough sand.

What I have decided to do is grab up the old hay that they have wasted and put it in the gate areas where it is frozen mud divets. That will work until the thaw, when I can get in there with the front loader and scrape the wet, yucky hay out.

It looks like my area is still on track for the ice part of the storm. They just aren’t sure how much ice we’re going to see. Enough to make life miserable, or enough to make life extremely miserable with downed powerlines and I would then have to start the generator.
