Caught the tail end of a two part Dr. Phil show today. This 28 year old guy, is morbidly obese and still lives at home with his mother and father. He's unemployed and in debt. He's lazy and has no incentive to move out and be his own man.

The mother is a complete enabler. She cooks for him, cleans, does his laundry, and get this...she powders all his cracks and crevices after he showers so he doesn't get a rash. Dr. Phil offered for someone to help him with his weight and other issues...and the mother said she didn't think it would help, because he really likes fast food. http://www.drphil.com/shows/show/2065

He has a younger brother, 24 years old, that is normal and independent.

These over bearing mothers, and there's plenty of them, don't do their son/s any favours. I wonder if her hubby is still in the home and what he thinks about it. I know my hubby would never stand for it, but he'd need not worry, that kind of parenting gives me the creeps.

I agree, it is the mother's fault in this case for sure. The husband was there with her, and he seemed to want his son to change, but it appeared that he wasn't that strong of an influence, the wife pretty much led the parade.

Tho the mother is the worst culprit of all, as the entire family is in very desperate need of heavy-duty counseling. Dysfunctional is a mild understatement here. The son is never going to amount to anything and it's going to be a nightmare for him when she passes and he's on his own and has no one to care for him. Makes you wonder what gets people to the level of his mother, who won't let their children go and assume their own life. I'm especially sorry for the son who, with no encouragement, has ever been allowed that privilege.
