38 Day Trip to Mexico

Ok, I have just returned from spending 38 days in Mexico; traveling from Isla Mujeres all the way to Progreso. We rented a car for 9 days. If you have done this and motored through Mexican villages you will understand why I will never do this again!

Apparently, 10 millions tourists come to Cancun but they don't know Mexico. Almost all of them sit in All Inclusive Resorts. I have seen planes from Poland and planes from Turkey.

I am 79 years old and I have seen very few seniors in Mexico. Perhaps they are sitting in the all inculsive resorts or perhaps going on cruises.

Everyone in Mexico is walking around starring at their smartphones. Apparently cell phone addiction is rampant. The noise from the motorcycles and the traffic is constant 24 hours/day. Boy! Am I glad to be home where I can shower with a safety bar in my bathroom and drink water from my faucet.

You don't know how good you got it until you leave home!

Was it better than when you went to Cuba for an extended winter stay a year or two ago?
 
I have been through Mexico starting in Juarez. I could (should) have stopped there and came back home. We flew into El Paso and drove for five days. It was supposed to be eight days, but I had enough on day five.

John,.. Mexico ( Cancun, amost always ) is a huge holiday destination for Brits as well.... most whom are likely to be as you described , tourists who just stay in the All inclusive resort, the whole time they're there... never seeing the Real Mexico... at all.. in fact some even declaring Mexico to be unsafe ... yet willing to pay ££££'s to stay in a resort...

I've never understood it, nor tempted by it...
