Guitarist, animals are all over the place out here & there are no leash laws & NO ONE is going to come pick up an animal unless it has rabies. Those kittens could belong to the people whose house was next to the road there. Lots of people out here LOTS do not keep their cats indoors. The dogs are running up and down the street , the cats, are usually smarter & learn to hide. There are many many FAT coyotes out here. I watched one of my sisters turn into an animal hoarder trying to save every dog in the world & honestly I don't feel she gave the dogs she saved good quality lives. She was gone too much and worked too much to spend much time at all with the dogs she collected out of the road. The house she bought basically became a HUGE dog house. That house is not livable anymore. If she drops dead today no one is going to take all her dogs & they will likely go to the pound. I have one chihuahua. I'm almost 60. I don't want another animal. This dog gets plenty of love, attention, food, clean environment etc. If I drop dead I have arranged for my daughter in California to come get my dog and keep it as her own. I know many people who have several animals & when you ask them who is going to take the animals when they drop dead they usually tell me they haven't the foggiest idea. It never occurs to many of them that very few people will want to take in 5 or 6 pets after they have passed on.
I'll tell you a true story. About 5 years ago I was looking out my window and saw a small child 3 years old walking down the middle of the highway in front of my house. I ran out there and got her. She kept telling me her name was " Puddin and tane..ask me again and I'll tell you the same." She did not know where she lived. I called the local sheriff's office & I swear it was close to two hours later until an officer drove up. They cover a large area. So..believe me when I tell you no one is coming to save all the feral dogs and cats.
Your sentiments are very kind, but not very practical if you live out here.
