5 year-old Dallas boy found dead. Mother arrested.

It is also a good argument for vastly improving the foster care system, and criteria the people charged with protecting children are basing their decisions on when they return a child to an abusive and/or negligent parent.

Maybe the way the system operates is why more people don't want to become foster parents. I know people who have and are heartbroken when the abused child they took in is returned to the parents. I also know of people who have been foster parents, through news stories, mainly, who have been unloving, neglectful, and abusive foster parents.

The whole system is a mess, from stem to stern.

Eight years ago, I reported a mother to CPS. She would direct her drunk boyfriend to beat her son with a belt because she couldn't catch him.
CPS gave me the usual "We'll investigate."
After I found that they weren't doing much, I called CPS again & said, "I'm about to write editorials to several newspapers describing your apathy & incompetence in detail - including names of everyone I spoke to in your office. I'm also going to write to several TV news programs about how you're paid to do nothing. Then, when the child is found dead (or he kills his mother,) how do you think you will look?"

CPS sent a social worker to the child's school to interview him, then they forced his mother to attend parenting classes & anger management, or lose custody. They also suggested she not allow her boyfriend in her house when the child was there. I kept in touch with her; she did comply with both requests. CPS did not tell her who reported her.
I occasionally talk with the son; he's now 20 & living out of state.

That kid was born, so no longer mattered.

Another issue is the kids who survive to18 with horrible childhoods. Now what do they do?

There really is little protection for children.

This is good argument for abortion. It was on our local news, and the children had been taken away from her, then returned to her by CPS. 😔

From what I've seen, it's individuals who won't take proper care of their kids and even abuse their kids that wouldn't consider abortion in the first place. Individuals believing they have 'rights' to produce children and then mistreat them afterward.

Thank you for DOING THE RIGHT THING!!!
Too damned many people 'don't want to get involved.'

I seems that too many times child protective services drop the ball on these cases! I don't know if that has to do with each state's individual laws on what should happen but it's very sad, frustrating and angering to read about these poor children who weren't protected at all. May the little angel rest in heavenly paradise. May his mother spend the rest of her life under the worst imaginable situations while incarcerated.
