50+ High School Reunion

We had a great time. The cost was very reasonable at $75 per couple with choice of entree, which we had three choices. I didn’t see anyone over-drinking. The bar was either cash (pay per drink) or pay an extra $30 each and that person could have at it. I was on the committee and suggested that we each solicit the commercial establishments within our school district for some kind of giveaway. Most gave us a paper gift certificate. We used those for door prizes by giving everyone a ticket when they entered. Only the class member received the ticket. That way, no couple would win two gifts. We also had a class member that was a DJ, so he gave the class a night of free service. I made it a point to attempt to get to every table to say hello, even though I was not a class officer. BTW, we did not go buffet. Instead, we used plated meals served.
 

These days, $60 isn't a bad price. You're not only paying for the buffet, some of that money goes to paying for the facility that's being rented for the occasion (unless your class already has a fund set up for that purpose). My niece's birthday party was $65 per person and that was probably about 10 years ago. It wasn't even at the best banquet restaurant in town (but one that's used often) and I only enjoyed the fruit salad. If they cancel the event, there should be no problem with you getting your money back, especially since you paid by check.

My 50th (51st actually) was my first. Moved away from Utah shortly after graduation and quickly lost touch with everyone. So I was seeing people for the first time in over 50 years, a different experience. To be honest I don't remember the cliques so don't know if they were still together. I was surprised however at how little personalities changed, they were mostly the same people I remember.

Nothing in my old school looks the same, its been a parking lot for the last 40 years... building long gone.

Our high school also changed with a large addition. The main gym during my time there is now the auxiliary gym. Our trophies in basketball and baseball have also disappeared. What they did with the old trophies, we don’t know. Our 50th was a weekend event. Friday night was a social for classmates only with a cash bar and we paid for the snacks. Saturday, we toured the new school addition and stayed for the first half of the football game. Some of the fans remembered a few of us. Saturday night was the gala event and Sunday morning was prayers, breakfast (self-pay) and then good byes. It really was a very good time.
