Hello (fellow) seniors!! I've come here hoping to get some pretty basic info and advice, and I'm looking forward to not being the oldest guy in the room for a change! I'm a lifelong New Englander wrapping up a career in wireless telecom. My wife of 31 years, an executive at a global construction/development company, has recently started to talk about when she might be ready to wrap it up and get on with a new chapter. Our daughter has settled in Denver where she will likely/hopefully soon marry and supplying grandchildren. I ran a marathon once and while I'm not exactly sure what metaphorical mile-marker I'm at, I feel like the finish line is close and I'm still running strong. Tired, yes, but strong!

Welcome...I was born in 1950, so you are by far not the oldest. Yet you are old enough to know better, as mama used to say!

Internet forums can be fun and entertaining as long as you don't spend too much time on them. Also, recognize that some people are just writing stuff to 'get a reaction' and not really looking for perspective, opinions, or suggestions. If you see a post that doesn't 'read/ feel right' just move on.

Most important...have fun with it....

I grew up in New England! Welcome.

Wow buddy - I'm wrackin me brains trying to remember wot I was doing at 65 ? - that's why diaries are always a good idea - I would recommend investing in a good strong one and keeping it up to date cos as sure as hell you may not?? and then start having fun!

Enjoy your retirement by engaging in a combination of getting things done that need doing and doing things you love doing (and perhaps put off because you are working). There may be an adjustment period after you stop working and that's normal. I responded to your post about Medicare and got the impression you've got your finances in order. That being said....I hope you enjoy it here.

Welcome Eddie, from an Old Englander, (that's the little Island of the coast of Europe,) here's some things to expect as you head into "old age."
No one expects you to run.....................................................anywhere.
Your eyes won’t get too much worse.
Things that you buy now won’t wear out.
Hopefully, you and your teeth might still sleep together.
You are no longer viewed as a hypochondriac.
People call you at 8 p.m. and ask, “Did I wake you?”
Your joints make the same noises as your coffee maker.
Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.
You try to straighten out the wrinkles in your socks and discover you aren’t wearing any.
Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can’t remember them either.
You get called old fart, but that's an endearment. You will find that flatulence is a way of life in old age.
Don't worry about any of the above................it doesn't last long!

Hi @eddio45, I like the way your usernemane rolls of the tongue. I too am an eddie of former years until my wife started me ed now I am Mr. Ed you know, the reincarnation of my great palomino horse. He was a famous movie star alongside of a distant cousin Francis the talking mule. I am member of long lineage of talking animals…who can forget the incredible Mr. Limmpet and his service as WW2 submarine detector?

Hello Eddie. I'm a New Englander also. South Coastal Mass.. Just turned 90 a few months ago which puts me a bit further down the road. Hope you enjoy the group
South Coastal Mass?? We have a house in Westport; maybe we've seen you at Lees??

Oh I remember Mr. Ed fondly; voiced by the same actor as Francis BTW. "Ed" is one nickname I've never liked though. I've been Eddie, Little Eddie (I'm a Jr.), Baby Eddie (well into my 40's by some aunts), EddieO, djeddieo (I was a nightclub DJ), but mostly I'm called Edward. I answer the phone "This is Edward" and am often mystified by by callers asking "do you go by Ed or Edward?" I want to say say "what part of 'this is Edward' did you not understand??"

What name of your choice would you liked to have been called? I'm thinking along the lines of William the Conqueror or Patsy the Great? Just kidding.

Have you retired yet or still planning? I've done a few different things in my life some of them quite well. But at 71 I do feel like being retired is what I have most excelled at. My new RL friend and dog sitter feels the same and she is in her sixties. My wife is 81 and still loves to do her art work along with the office work that entails. But attending to her failing physiology is her full time job. Ma

Make yourself to home!
